After a grueling one hour of reading several reviews of various newspapers, hoping to find one convincing review for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, I decided to watch a movie which I think in my words is world class! A thriller, that seems as fresh as it would be to a person watching the movie for the first time.
Gothika is this and more...the first time I decided on this movie, I only read the review and saw a scared picture of Halle Berry and took my chances... I am glad I did! A criminal psychiatrist, Dr. Miranda Grey is charged of murdering her husband in cold blood, a crime she vehemently claims she hasn’t committed. What’s interesting to note is the fact that this might seem as another MPD case altered for a better effect, is actually a different story altogether.
An excellent physician, Miranda seems to be walking on her routine path when she encounters an even that changes her life! What happens next is her fight to bring herself, the unknown and all of us glued to the occurrences, to the actual crime scene. How she manages to defy medicine and relative theories and break away from her rational self is a mystery that unfolds in due course of the film.
Like any other happily married couple, Halle Berry who plays the role of the psychiatrist tries to come to terms with reality and medicine. While there are undertones of Robert Downing Jr’s evident romance, she realizes there is much more to be discovered than just a case she is handling for now.
There have been several stories that have been re-hashed on this note. It’s fortunate for us to see the uncut version by watching Gothika. Her tryst with Chloe’s (Penelope Cruz) devil, the senior dean’s missing daughter and her ghost that brings her to …well let me not tell you the entire story! Trust me if you want to bring in chills this December, Gothika is a must watch movie for any one who dares to tread through the unknown and sinister journey of thrillers in general. And like most thrillers, this too leaves a scope for s sequel. For all you know there may be one in line for sure. Its more like the American’s say that this is a definite “2 thumbs up” movie! Definitely worth a watch!!
