Where do broken hearts go from here?

I’m sure you or someone you know has experienced heartbreak before. Myself included. The tears just kept coming and wouldn’t stop. It was so painful and unbearable at times. However, these songs helped me to heal and move on. When you hear "sad love songs, " it makes you realize that you are not alone. Everyone gets hurt at some point or another in his or her life. My advice is just stay strong and you will surely pull through.  You can find more information about these band/artists online. Also they all have music videos available on the Youtube website. Here is my list:

  1. I Still Cry by Ilse DeLange

Ilse DeLange is a pop singer from the Netherlands. Some of her albums include World of Hurt(1998), Livin’ On Love(2000), Clean Up(2003), The Great Escape(2006), Incredible(2008), and Next To Me(2010).

Why does I Still Cry heal the pain?

The song is about a woman who is missing someone immensely. The "missing" individual could be anyone from a lost loved one to a past lover. She admits that she still cries when she remembers him and when she hears his name. She reflects back on the month of September. It pains her that those days are gone forever. She knows he is alright wherever he may be but those tear drops won’t stop falling. Ilse’s voice is incredibly beautiful and she adds true emotions behind her words. The song is not only about missing someone but it tells a story. This song teaches us that it is okay to express our feelings and let it out sometimes. Our memories are precious and will never be forgotten. After all, that’s all we can take with us in the end.

  1. It Must Have Been Love by Roxette

Roxette is a Swedish pop duo. Some of their best hits include The Look(1989), Listen to Your Heart(1989), Joyride(1991), Fading Like a Flower(1991), and It Must Have Been Love(1990). "It Must Have Been Love" was originally called "It Must Have Been Love(Christmas for the Broken Hearted)" and was released in 1987. The song was changed afterwards to "It Must Have Been Love" and was included on the soundtrack for the movie, Pretty Woman(1990).

Why does It Must Have Been Love heal the pain?

The song is about a lonely winter’s day after a breakup. The woman has a dream that she is back together with her past lover. But when she wakes up, she is faced with the cruel and harsh reality that he isn’t returning. She wishes things were the same as before. You can feel the emptiness surrounding her as she describes the silence in her bedroom and all around. The bitter coldness of winter adds to her disheartening day.The lyrics that yearn for comfort are "It must have been love, but it’s over now. It must have been good, but I lost it somehow. It must have been love, but it’s over now. It’s where the water flows, it’s where the wind blows."

  1. I’ll Be Over You by Toto

Toto is an American rock band from Los Angeles. They formed in 1977. Some of their most popular hits include Hold the Line(1978), Rosanna(1982), Africa(1982), I’ll Be Over You(1986), and Without Your Love(1986).

Why does I’ll Be Over You heal the pain?

The song is about a guy who has an undying love for a girl. Even though they have parted ways, his love still remains strong within his heart. He will never be completely over her because his love is so powerful. He recalls the promises they both made but realizes nothing stays the same. He thinks back about memorable moments they had together. He feels he may be able to forget about those times someday. The most hearbreaking lyrics are, "As soon as my heart stops breaking. Anticipating. As soon as forever is through. I’ll be over you." Regardless of how things turn out, true love never dies.

  1. Un-break My Heart by Toni Braxton

Toni Braxton is an American R & B singer, songwriter, and actress. Some of her top hits include Another Sad Love Song(1993), Breathe Again(1993), You Mean the World to Me(1994), and Un-break My Heart(1996).

Why does Un-break My Heart heal the pain?

Toni is known for having a huskier voice and a deeper vocal range. She heightens all her emotions on this track. Her intense feelings and lyrics are what pull at your heart strings. You can’t help but feel for her heartwrenching pain. She wants her past lover to "undo" all her suffering. From "uncrying" her tears, and "undoing" her hurt to "un-breaking" her heart. The lyrics that get to you most are, "Un-break my heart. Say you’ll love me again. Undo this hurt you caused. When you walked out the door. And walked outta my life. Un-cry these tears. I cried so many nights. Un-break my heart."

  1. Nothing Compares To You by Sinead O’ Connor

Sinead O’ Connor is an Irish singer and songwriter. Some of her albums include Lion and the Cobra(1987), I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got(1990), Am I Not Your Girl?(1992), and Faith and Courage(2000). "Nothing Compares 2 U" was orginally written by American singer, Prince.

Why does the song, Nothing Compares to You heal the pain?

The song is about dealing with a terrible and painful loss at the end of a relationship. No matter how much she tries convincing herself to move on, she knows nothing will compare to that person. It’s about the emptiness you feel at the end of day. Regardless of what you do, where you go, or who you meet, that person’s image will be engraved in your memory. Sinead personally experienced a tragic loss of her own in real life(her mother). If you watch her music video(on the Youtube website), you can see tears streaming down her face. These were actual tears she cried due to her mother passing away. This song holds great sentimental value for her.
