This was a pleasant surprise. Neat, without exaggeration of emotion, great acting, a decent storyline made for intresting viewing. Five star alludes to Five college mates and friends who plan to stick together, even after completing their studies. The twofemale-three male group get a jolt , when of the the guys breaks off from the group due to personal problems with his family, where he is forcibly married to his cousin. To flee from his family and a stranger-bride he breaks off from the group and charts his own life elsewhere. Six years pass and the scene shifts to how the friends are faring. The four remaining friends still live together. The two females are married and their spouses live along with the group. The focus is now on the romantic interaction between one of the guys and the wife of his friend who was ditched.
There are some flaws in the movie, like too many songs in the first hour , the usual filmi college environs, some slack at parts where the movie seems weighty. But, these are minor grudges. Overall, it is a fine movie with minimum sentiment even though the subject is emotional - on friendship, love, marriage. Acting by Kanika, the bride who despairs for her runaway husband is fantastic. Especially good are the scenes where she shows the letters and other love goodies she got in her six years of singlehood from men and the final confrontation scene with the elders in her village. The other actors have done well too.
Probably the best Tamil film currently on show.
