When we talk of the days gone by in Hindi film, mostly good memories and great names prop up. When we talk of heroines of yesterday, we think of Nargis, Nitan, Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman, Mumtaaz, Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi etc, who were either great actresses or very good looking.
However, it won’t be fair to say that those days we had all great actresses and all the bad actresses are present today. Only thing is that we have forgotten the bad actresses of yesteryears, like a bad dream. Each decade had its share of bad actresses.
The following is a decade wise listing of the worst actress of the decade. I have left out the fifties and the earlier period, as by the nature of acting standards, there was much more melodrama and hence they may look like bad acting today.
1960s: Vimmi
She had a dream deview with Hamraaz and did not have a single hit afterwards. You can not blame it on anything other than her acting talents. She had good looks and that ensured her a big banner entry. I think when the hero sung “Kissi paththar ke murat se mohabbat ka iraadaa hai”, it befitted Vimmi as she was nothing beyond a stone idol without any expression on face.
1970s: Simi Garewal
I have already touched upon her positive side in my review on 5 most beautiful actresses. She was graceful, but she was never meant to enter the acting world. From whatever I have seen her, she has never come out of monotony. I think today she is at the place that best suits her: a compere/ anchor.
1980s: Kimi Katkar
This Tarzan girl created a sensation with Tarzan. Probably nobody had earlier dared to bare so much as she did. There after, there were several films that she did, including Hum with Big B. However, her performance never improved and she remained the same pathetic actress that she was in her first movie.
1990s: Twinkle Khanna
Daughter of a superstar and a superb actress, she could never live upto the expectations. Being the star child she was, offers flooded in, but her performance was always below average. I was shocked seeing her getting the lead role in a heroine centered movie: Mela. But the performance was same old pathetic.
2000s: Esha Deol
Again, daughter of two big stars of Bollywood. Whatever she has delivered till date have been yuck to say the least. She is finding it hard to come out of her mother’s shadow and in turn, gives a performance, which looks like a cheap imitation of Hema Malini at her worst!!
