Lesson Learnt: Purchase from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and not the resellers (like Flipkart) as far as possible. Buying it from a reseller dilutes the accountability of both companies, and you’ll end up on the wrong side of corporate negligence like me.
I wanted to build a high performance PC and ordered all the components (worth 45K) due to their hassle free delivery and product genuineness. The payment processing and delivery is a boon, I must say.
For the Hard Disk Drive, looking at the 5-years warranty of the Western Digital Caviar Black , I paid 11K and bought a 2 TB piece. Do note that the popular 2 TB hard disks (of WD and Seagate) cost only about 6K. I chose to pay a premium with the idea that the build quality would be robust and that I could enjoy years of worry-free storage.
To my utter horror, the casing of the SATA connector pins on the HDD came off when I plugged the cable (talk about robustness). When I contacted Flipkart for a product return/replacement (it was only 5 days since purchase, while they guarantee a 30 days return policy) , they exhibited complete callousness with my issue.
Despite sending them photographs of the damaged connector pins, they tried to hide behind a lame excuse that their vendor produces all products to the same quality grade and the piece I received cannot be an exception. Well, so much for a 5-years warranty. .
