Key West, Florida is a great place to visit if...you like beautiful sunsets, white sandy beaches, and lots of bars with friendly people.
Let me start out by saying our visit to Key West started with a beautiful drive. We came from Hollywood, Florida so it took us about four hours to drive to mile marker 0. (the southern most tip of United States) Thank God for air conditioning in the car. Anyway, the drive is a beautiful mix of ocean-lined roads and bridges. As far as the eyes can see is beautiful ocean.
Once we arrived there, we drove around the island. It doesnt take long since it is not very big. There are numerous restaurants and bars that specialize mostly in seafood. We had lunch which was pretty expensive. (about $40.00 for two of us) Since we were not familiar with the place, we didnt know where the less expensive restaurants were. Anyway, the food was good and the view of the ocean was beautiful.
After lunch, we went to the famous Duval Street. That is where everyone gathers just before the sun goes down to watch the infamous sunset. It is spectacular. There are vendors there selling everything from jewelry to homemade crafts. There are also people performing in the streets. Some dancing, some putting on plays or skits. It is very entertaining.
We only stayed one day, but if we had stayed longer, there are many things to do there. You can take a tour on a glass bottom boat. Or rent mopeds (little motorbikes) to ride around the island on. There are many places to swim and relax in the sun.
All in all, I would say Key West is a great place to visit. I dont know if I would want to live there, but for a vacation it would prove to be very relaxing and enjoyable.
