I am an avid listener of FM radio stations all over the world...in other words wherever I am...I listen to the FM radio stations.
In Mumbai, there has been a plethora of FM radio stations sending music, info and advertising through the airwaves to the general public. Although they all claim to be Hindi or English FM stations, they are neither. The DJs are heavily "accented"(Hindi accent to their English), the DJs speak a mix of Hindi and English words and one cannot understand what they are trying to say; the advertisements are the same, with a mix of Hindi and English which sounds horrendous to say the least.
It really looks like all the FM radio stations in Mumbai are catering to the autorickshaw drivers and their passengers as they might be the only ones listening!
This is a crucial medium for the general public and it should be the most important means to communicate, educate and create awareness with the easy listening sound of music.
I feel the FM radio station Managers should sit down, analyse and decide which part of the General Public they want to cater to i.e. Hindi speaking or English speaking; English music listener or Hindi music listener?
I can understand that finally every radio station is interested in surviving and that means - advertising revenue.... but DONT we have TV channels that are purely English and those that are purely Hindi?
Right now there is no FM Radio Station that plays English music in Mumbai and no DJ that speaks only in English. It is a sad turn of events as one just cant understand what the FM radio stations are trying to project.....a money spinning organisation???!!!
It would be a boon for the general public if the CEOs of these radio stations decide on some quality programs with quality personnel using any single-language medium of communication and music ie. English or Hindi; NOT both.
