My favorite FM radio station is KOMA AM/FM in Oklahoma City, OK. This station has been around for as long as I can
remember. Back in the 40s and 50s they played my Mothers kind of music. (I couldnt stand it! HEE HEE!)
In the late 50s they switched the formating to Rock and Roll. However, I still didnt listen to it very often, for my favorite station at that time was KOCY. KOCY has been out of existence for many years. My favorite deejay, Danny Williams broadcast his show from WKY radio, a station that still is operating.
When I became an adult and moved away from OK City, it was difficult to pull in the city stations. Gradually, I quit trying. The music styles had changed and I did not like a lot of the music that played, anyway.
A few years later, I was trying to find a station on our car radio and heard a song playing I had not heard in years.
It was on KOMA! And it was now a Golden Oldies station! At that time they were still broadcasting only on AM. From then on, whenever I could pull in their signal, I would listen to KOMA.
For several years now, KOMA has broadcast both on AM and FM.
To make things even better, my favorite deejay now has the early morning show on weekday mornings. Our alarm on our clock radio is set to wake us up with the Danny Williams show.
We listen to KOMA on our car radio, too. Depending on our location, sometimes the FM station comes in the most clearly, and other times, we have to switch back to AM.
I will say this: FM radio has come a long way from the days when all you could get on it was classical (long hair) music. Yes, you can still get the symphonies and operas, if you choose. But today, you have a much wider range of show types to choose from.
