Odd Men Out

I was fortunate to hear there ’Make me bad’ from Issues, which made me curious about the band and drove me in to buying ’Follow The Leader’ there album previous to Issues.I wasn’t disappointed with the music with the starter ’It’s on’.I did some R & D on the band by reading to other members reviews and web pages made me understand the the title ’Follow The Leader’ which is a SHOT(as written by one member) at those bands which had used KORN sound to get to the top.The cover of the CD depicts the same thing showing a girl at the edge of the mountain followed by lot of kids. It’s very explanatory. Lyrics of each song are not difficult to decipher and has meaning many times.

’It’s on’ the First song on the CD starts with a sound similar to ’Fistfull of Steel’ by Rage Against The Machine and goes heavy.Vocals on the song by Jonathen Davis are good compared to what followed later.I’m a great Rage against the Machine fan so it didn’t take much time to adapt to there music.

The next song is a hit ’Freak on a leash’.The different thing about the song is that it is not a conventional ’It’s on’ kind of a song but beyond the familiar regularity of heavy rhythm though Jon twaddles with some weird vocals in between the song.Korn fans may not like this song but this is one of my favorite on the CD.

Next one is also a famous ’Got the Life’.This is a fast guitar driven song & has some lyrical meaning to it. The next one is ’Dead bodies every where’.The starting of the song is nice and peaceful but that’s not KORN and they prove it.10/10 on this one.

’Children Of The Korn’ features Ice Cube the well known rapstar. This is a serious song. This song is for childrens who get told about what to do.This song shows the innovative nature of band. This one also is second of my favorite.

’B.B.K.’ is a trite sound. It’s easy to forget this song with heartless muddled repetition of other songs.

’Pretty’ is a CD filler song.I always skip this song when listening carefully not otherwise.

Now, hold on your horses ’cause we have Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit on the next song(??????).

The question is weather it is a song.I agree that background is driven with some cool dynamic guitar riffs but what about wordings? The song is ’All in the Family’.A meaningless song full of verbal insulting techniques meant for us to laugh. In this song Fred and Jon go on pounding each other with verbal insults. You got to excuse the word choices. But in a sense this can be inspiring when you are on a fight(not physical) with some one, you can well use some of the lines in the song. When I first heard this song I couldn’t stop myself laughing and hope neither can you, of course they ain’t serious. To me it’s more Limp Bizkit kind of a song like 4b+ f**k’s in the song ’Hot Dog’ of Chocolate Starfish N’ Hot Dog Flavor Water.I think that’s more than enough on this punk song.

’Reclaim My Place’ is vocaly better song.In this Jon wants to reclaim his place against all odds of being called f*g.This song reflects some singing talent of Jon.

’Justin’ promises to be a powerful sound with fantastic guitar effects, but loses track somewhere along the way ending up in a mediocre creation. It’s about a kid having intestinal cancer and whose last wish was to see korn. This song could have been better.

About ’Seeds’ I don’t have anything to write which hasn’t been written before.A simple run of the mill song.

’Cameltosis’ has Tre Hardson of Pharcyde with his freakish rap singing. This is some sort of a love song.

I would love to spend some time writing on ’My Gift To You’.A 15:40 minute song!!!.First I wondered what in the world this song is going to sound.I mean today no one generaly produces this big song. But soon I was disillusioned by the fact that it has a hidden track. This is a cool song setting these men apart from other similar bands. It starts with nice melody comprising heavy guitar, bass, drums and yes the Bagpiper. The intensity is carried over rest of the song. This is a different song I have heard after a long time.Bagpiper does adds some emotions to the track. After this song there is approximately 3 minutes silence and we get a hidden track which is a remake of Cheech and Chongs, Earache My Eye. Cheech Marin himself is on the vocals.

About the dark side of music, I had been writing in between but one more point I would like to make is the 12 track irritating silence on the CD.Whatever is the purpose behind it, it’s annoying(maybe that’s there purpose) but they love there fans and thank them on the CD.

So 70:08 minutes of hardcore metal, rap, rock and we are part of a mainstream success of

KORN.There are good songs as well as ordinary ones on the CD.But I always look from the positive perspective so we can skip what ever is negative.I am really impressed with this band and would like to hear more of them. They are unarguably Odd Men Out in Heavy metal scene.
