A few Restaurant Table Manners !

By food etiquettes, I think it has to do something with table manners in a restaurant. Although it may be much the same whether you are eating at home or in a restaurant, there are a few special problems that do arise when dining out.

Let me start with the appetizer knife! Restaurants offering appetizers, which require the use of a knife often forget  to supply an extra one for the main course. In that case, you use the knife that has been provided, and leave it on your appetizer plate. When the waiter brings the main course, ask him for a fresh one.Do not try to clean your first knife and then lay it on the table between courses.

Many restaurants serve vegetables in small individual side dishes. The waiter places them around your dinner plate. You may eat these vegetables directly from the small dishes, or you may put them on your dinner plate by using a serving spoon or sliding them  directly out of the small dish. After finishing the vegetables, you can then ask the waiter to remove the empty dishes. This  avoids overcrowding the table as well.

When an uncut loaf of bread is placed on the table, the host should slice  two or three individual portions and offer them with the rest of the loaf in the bread basket. He can also pass them to the ladies next to him. This should be passed around the table and each man should cut a portion for himself and the lady next to him.

If the coffee or tea is placed on the table, without first having been poured by the waiter, the person nearest the pot should offer to pour.He should fill his cup last.

When everyone has finished his meal, the host should catch the eye of the waiter or head waiter and ask for the bill. When the host looks at the bill, he has to go through it quickly for mistakes and return it to the plate with necessary  money. If he finds an error, he should point it out to the waiter quietly, without raising his voice. The waiter will then make the adjustment either himself or with the help of the head waiter or cashier. In no circumstances, should a scene be created!

If the management is unpleasant about making a correction, you simply pay the bill and leave as quickly as possible.Do not return to that restaurant again.

Regarding tipping, 15% is standard in any restaurant. You can tip 20% if you have been very demanding or the service has been unusually good!On the other hand, if you were not given any service by the waiter  beyond seating you and handing you a menu you don’t have to give him anything, I mean the tipping!
