I bought my Figo 1.4 TDCI Titanium car 4 months back, now it clocks 15, 000 km and its time for me to pen down ownership review for my car.
When I planned to buy a diesel car , following features/attributes were must in my list
ABS & Airbags,
Fun to drive,
Good space for front and back passengers,
Reliable.
After several test drives and process of elimination it boil downs to two cars Figo 1.4 TDCI Titanium VS Swift ZDI
When compared to Swift ZDI, Figo comes a lac cheaper and I get more space, excellent city drive-ability , good boot space and equally fun to drive. It’s a very close call between these two cars, if money was not a constraint , I would have bought Swift ZDI.
So decided to go for Figo and bought by Mar 2012, after 15k kms under my (Figo’s) belt, no regrets on my decision, happy that I made a wise decision.
Looks: -
It’s looks dated, no question about that, but not offensive too. It’s plain and simple.
Drive:-
It’s powered by same 1.4 TDCI, which does its duty on Fiesta and Ikon TDCI, it is a reliable work horse, excellent in city with no turbo lag and has adequate power on high ways. Usually I cruse around 100 – 120 km/h, Figo delivers enough power in this range. If a quick overtake is necessary better to downshift a gear and complete the overtaking maneuver. It drives like a petrol car and shifting from petrol car to diesel is made easy for me.
What made me to go for Figo is, its steering. It’s a delight to drive, not too heavy nor too light, it’s perfect and gives you excellent feedback. Take the car to a twisty road and you will understand the beauty of Figo’s steering and handling
Mileage:
It delivers from 16 – 20 km/lt depending on driving condition, speed, usuage of AC and other factors (no of person in the car, luggage , etc)
NVH:
You can hear a loud diesel clatter when you standing outside, once you are in, rolled your windows, engine sound is in acceptable limit. When car reaches 80 km/h speed, engine settles into a nice rhythm and you hear very less sound. No vibrations in gear lever or in steering @ any speed.
Ride and Handling:
Ride is definitely on the firm side, you can feel all speed breakers, small pot holes and undulations in slow speed, once you reach a decent speed , ride is more acceptable. I’m not saying it’s very harsh, it’s not plush.
The price you are paying for ride is where you gain in handing, combined with excellent steering feedback and wonderful chassis, Figo is very stable in high speeds and begs you to attack corners more.
It’s fun to drive
Ac is a chiller, even in hot summer you might not need to set the fan speed beyond 2
Summary:
Two things that I hate in this car is its light and horn, both are pathetic, Ford needs understand the local needs, they are not selling FIGO in US, India needs a car with good ground clearance, good horns and good head lights for better visibility.
Will I recommend this car to my friends, a big yes if they are looking for VFM
My humble request to viewers/members who are planning to buy Swift VDI, please consider Figo Titanium, it gives you ABS & Airbag which is a life saving feature, it’s more car for your money. If you have money , please buy Swift ZDI , as overall package Swift ZDI is a better package than Figo Titanium.
Swift ZDI > Figo 1.4 TDCI Titanium > Swift VDI
I have no business relationship with Ford or Maruti and I’m not working for them.I own a FIGO and Baleno, my comments and suggestions are purely based on my experience.
