Ford Figo Diesel Titanium : What more do you want

It’s been only a month since I got my Ford Figo Diesel Titanium, but I couldn’t resist from sharing my initial experiences.

I wont give an indepth technical analysis, as many things have already been written about this car on mouthshut !!

Here u go......

  1. Space

====

Figo is really spacious. At first glance from outside, it looks like a small hatchback. But once you get in, you’ll definitely be surprised with the leg room it offers for the rear passengers.

Also, 3 normal sized persons can easily sit without being cramped. This is probably because of the proper positioning of rear tyres, so that they don’t conflict with seating area near doors.

Leg room for front passengers can be ruled out, as it is generally sufficient in all cars in this segment (there may be exceptions though, which I am unaware of). A person 6 feet tall should easily be able to accommodate himself without having a need to tilt the steering (Tilt Steering is anyways not an option in Figo).

Boot space of 284 litres will again impress you (both visibly and practically).

  1. Comfort

=====

Well this is subjective and different people have different opinions. I’ll just share my thoughts :)

Considering the price tag, I am highly impressed with the features that Figo carries:

Audio system is too good. Overall sound quality and the bass are awesome. Obviously when compared to FM, vocals and treble are sharper when you use CDs, MP3s or do a Bluetooth streaming. You’ll love attending phone calls through Bluetooth on this system and everyone in the car will be able to speak to the caller, as the microphone is pretty sensitive. Rear passengers just have to be bit louder :).

AC is powerful and will chill your spines in couple of minutes.

Ability to open the boot through remote is good and useful feature.

You’ll love the handling of this car at both lower and higher speeds. It’s like being absolutely aware how your tyres are touching the road.

The big panoramic (wide) view from the front windscreen ensures that you see everything coming your way.

There are many other little features in this car which you’ll find useful at one point or the other.

  1. Performance

=========

Many people have expressed concerns about Figo’s torque and power being less. However till now I never experienced any problem with it. Just ensure to use the correct gear based on the vehicle’s speed and you’ll never be short of power.

Car is very smooth and steady at higher speeds. You need to sometimes mind and monitor the acceleration on higher speeds as you’ll never realize when it reached 140+ …..

By God’s grace, till now I have not faced the famous ground clearance issue with Figo and my car never scraped its bottom. I am not sure if it’s my careful driving or Ford has done some recent changes in their suspension, but I never faced this issue even on the big and curvy speed breakers. Also I have the same mudflaps which came along the car. Maybe I am just lucky :).

I didn’t get a chance to calculate the mileage in City, but on highways, my car is giving me 21kmpl. I am yet to get the first service done:

I am using the following conventional method to calculate:

  1. Get the fuel tank full and note the current odometer reading. Start your trip.

  2. On reaching the destination, again get the tank full done and also the note the new odometer reading.

  3. The amount of fuel filled this time is the total fuel consumed in your trip. And the difference in odometer readings is the total distance covered.

And you very well know how to calculate the average nowJ. I don’t know any other better method than this.

  1. Things that may be of concern

======================

Figo is a true value for money car. However to some people, following things may be of concern:

  1. Absence of rear power windows:  To me, this really doesn’t matter as I hardly run my car without AC.

  2. Ground Clearance:  Although I never faced this issue, but lot of people have complained about it. But then you can always be slow on bumps and avoid this problem. Well, people also drive expensive Honda City/Civic cars, famous for the same issue.

  3. Appearance: This is a car with simple looks. But it’s well built, solid and very practical.

  4. Absence of tilt steering: However not many people use this feature even when it’s available in their cars.

  5. Alloy Wheels: Yes, you may need to pay around 14k (or more) to get them installed.

My car has just covered 1500kms as of now. Will share more experiences after the first service.

All I can say is that I am in love with this machine. It really gives me a feeling of satisfaction on my decision which was more practical, rather than being impulse driven :).

Kanishk
