This is my first review on ford ikon and i wanted to share my experience with the present and the prospective owners of this car. I bought it in the year 2007..it has almost been three years and has run 21, 000 kms so far. Before i went for ford, i zeroed on many other cars with maruti, hyundai and the rest of the pack. I was very apprehensive in the beginning and recieved a mixed or negative reviews from many intially. Its just like you want to buy enfield bullet in the beginning and many says no and when you buy it you realize that you have made a great decision. Its a great car to begin with. The space is awesome. Its not a shoulder to shoulder drive at all and you are not bothered with elbows and legs of the fellow passenger. The pick up is great without ac. It zips the road but with ac its not really a josh machine. In this case i would say that all the cars with 1.3 litres or below share the same ground. Till 2700 rpm with ac its like going boring but after 2700 rpm it takes on the road. Well it can be easily fixed with better fee and headers.
Engine is very responsive and uptill now it has given me no complaints (thanks to the lord). The average is very good. It still delivers me 11-13 with ac on in the city and 16 with ac on highway btw i use normal petrol.... Rocam engine is tried and tested and this ikon flair isnt the same like its predecessors which were a headache...
The build is very good. I was driving on the road when a wagon r bumped into me from behind at a good speed...its guard was completely broken while mine did not suffered a scratch.
Its not really very comfortable when it comes to sedan but is actually better than esteem and accent. I guess this is because of suspension as they are harder but one should not complain as they are sturdy looking at the indian roads. I have driven my car in rajaji national park with big potholes, driven through the isolated roads without any friction.
I have driven a lot on highways travelled more than 600kms in one day but was never tired in the car. Ac is good, you wouldn’t complain even in the month of June.
The only thing that everybody has to take care is of oil change every 5000 kms and i mean 5000kms. I use shell and its good than castrol (only the name and the price). You change oil regularly and any car can take care of itself. Do give consideration to wheel alignment. People don’t take it seriously but engine take special effort in drive a car with polio. It has touched 150km/hr easily with five heavy weights including me with ac on.
Its a nice buy and people should go for ford. They have changed a lot...parts may be expensive however i have not witnessed anything and would not want to. Service center are good and hey who cares after free service..get the oil changed regularly, clean the ac and wind filters, wheel alignment, and take out the machine. I should do just fine. I have a lot of faith on american cars rather there Korean counterparts...
