Title : Ford Ikon Car with No Brakes -
Review : Guys, Every one makes mistakes in life - I have had too. Consider this review as me going to Church and talking to the priest, confessing to my mistakes. It started with my company offering me a facility to buy a car where in they would pay for the emi’s and this seemed a great option to buy a bigger car. Greedy Mortal that I am I immediately started looking out for one, and finally zeroed in on the Ford Ikon- for various reasons- one of the main reasons being the discount being offered and the low down payment.
I got the Ford Ikon and my wife was happy- finally this Idiot has achieved something in life. getting the car was an achievement - not my UK MBA where I topped my college and not my PhD in Quality Systems from a US college. This is life and life always teaches you further. So here I was happily driving the Ford Ikon -1.6 Zxi in Delhi and the manufacturer had mentioned in the mannual which I had spent four hours reading that for the first 1500 kms drive slow.
I did- but to my dismay - something that I could not understand - the car would not respond to brakes- especially on a slightly higher speed- well the low life that I was-this I realized after talking to many at Ford- cause I was driving the Zen earlier- where there was no such issue- the Ford would not respond to Brakes the way the humble Zen did. Well I tried to reason and thought and thought- and talked and talked to Ford- spent a lot calling up Chennai from Delhi. Wrote to them too.- got back the ’’Corporate BIG world answers’’ Finally after all the strain and stress I realized that the Mahatma was right when he said ’’Simplicity should be the way of life’’.
I took the Ikon to the Ford dealer in Delhi and left it there. Seeing me in great anguish the mechanics too told me that my complaint was genuine and since life was nothing but a compromise I should accept the car as it is - Accept the facts they said- the car has no brakes and DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING REMEMBER THE LORD - ’’He always helps’’. I got the Ford back - also faced a lot of attitude and that the car during 100 Kms of TEST DRIVE had been BANGED though mildly both from the front and rear - I tried to show some too- but was quite unsuccessfull.
The major reason being that working from 6.00 pm to 10.00 am. -14 hours everyday I had no strength to go and fight. Having taken a fresh look at life - I did the uneventfull- I made sure that many of my other (4 did) friends too buy the Ford - Ikon- the logic behind this move is that I suffered- they should too.
The car essentially has a good body structure with great handling but the engine and brakes leave much to be desired.
The engine performance goes down drastically within one - two years.
