Ikon is one of the few notch back cars which is available under 5 lakhs and that does not mean any compromise on quality. It’s a high quality car.
This was the one of the first car in India to come with choice of diff. engines in the same car. You could have fuel efficient and drivable 1.3 liters or sporty 1.6 liters (petrol) or 1.8 liter oil burner. In spite of being a major automotive player in the world ford failed badly in India, when they first entered here with their esc*rt but the Ikon rewrote the account books for ford, the engines have been refined and made little more fuel efficient over the time but what has remain constant all the way is the brilliant handling. This car has the perfect weight balance, so it corners like some sports cars do.
The built quality has always been excellent. Even after the Indian road conditions and even after heavier diesel engine, a ford Ikon no matter how old it is, this car would sing along without a rattle or a squeak. The doors will always close with a thud. The upholstery will never smell foul. The interior trim will never fall off and electrics will never get minds of their own. This car always was and always will be precisely what it was launched as "the josh machine".
