I am a proud owner of a Ford Ikon Flair since a month and a half and
have done 1500 km on it. I had always been a ford ikon fan owing to
its stunning looks and handling. Thus when I went out to buy a under
6-lakh car there was not much to choose from. I did not really like
the esteem or the indigo owing to their rather jaded looks (by now it
must be evident that good looks is on top of my criteria list) and
hyundai getz was the only real contender. I test drove both and
realized that the ikon is far superior a vehicle. Apart from being a
sedan as compared to a hatchback the ikon scores over in raw
acceleration and having a huge boot. The cabin is noisier in the ikon
but that is a small price to pay in my opinion. The dealer experience
was good accept for one issue. I wanted to have the white dials and
silver dash that comes on the ZXi installed in my flair and the dealer
(Metro ford bangalore) promised that it would be done. In the end they
did not do it citing lack of spares. I did get the ZXi sporty steering
wheel though that affords me more leg space (i am a siz footer).
Initially I was getting a mileage of 9 in city conditions but within
500 km of use it increased to 10. Now I am getting a steady 10 kmpl.
This is a powerful car though it pales in comparision to the big
brother ZXi. But I feel the power that the 1.3 rocam delivers is
sufficient to satisfy people who want a combination of power and
mileage. The handling is awesome.
The interiors are far better than other cars in this class. I would
love the white dials and silver dash to be made a standard fitting in
the flair as well.
Cons ?? Well I have heard that servicing is inferior but I really
cannot comment on that since its been only 1.5 months for me. One thing
that will take getting used to is the tall rear side that hinders visibility while backing up.
Overall I would highly recommend the flair to anyone who values good
looks, powerfull yet efficient engine and excellent handling.
