I bought the top end IKON sxi 1.6 in April 2004. For almost two years it ran perfectly without problems. Recently problems started with my AC heating, instead of cooling and dealers not being able to fix it. Here is my view on the car
Good - Spacious interiors & boot. Comfortable seating
Bad - Poor technical expertise of dealers; Dealers kept replacing some part or other without informing me. Everytime they fixed something, they messed up something else. After regular service the cabin & plastic parts were full of dust and grease.
Heavy clutch with probably no power assistance - this can cause knee pain in the long run;
Tiny side mirrors - poor side visibility;
Unrealiable Airconditioning system. The AC kept on malfuctioning even after showing to dealers many times. After cooling for some time, it throws very hot air.
Caution: Do not leave old people & children in the car with AC running. AC can malfunction and heat up the cabin to very high temperatures, endangering life of occupants.
Update: I am having problems with dealer service. I sent my car for regular service and when it is returned the CD changer is damaged and cannot be fixed. I complained to dealer, but no use. They killed it, but won’t replace:(
Update 15/Nov/2009: I sent for another service and this time when the car is returned, the autocop remote will not work. There is also heavy engine vibration; in second gear it is moving with jerks and feels like it will stop.
Ford Service in Hyderabad is terrible. Every time I send the car for service, I had to send it a second time to dealer to fix fresh issues introduced during service. Request all customers to stay away from Ford( even though I don’t know how others are)
