As all of you may know, it has been free to download music from Kaaza and Kaaza lite(download without popups). My daughter amazingly enough brought my attention to an article on MSNBC.com that a 6 year old and a 12 year old have been prosecuted forsharing files on Kaaza. What I learned is that when you downloadfree songs, you open some kind of link or window that allows other people to access the song from your computer. The article on the children being prosecuted said they were NOT aware of this. Apparantly, Kaaza and other similar sites have access to our IPs and are evidently tracable by law enforcement. The recent information states that the RIAA(Record Industry) has plans to prosecute up to 60 million people in the near future!
At this time they are prosecuting people who haveshared and unwittinglyshared up to 1, 000files or songs. If anyone has Kaaza, all I can say is delete it immediately. The recording artists only make money when we buy their music. They are very serious about putting a stop to free downloading of their songs. Personally, I realize that the money recording artists make allows them to have a life of wealth. I am not against wealth, but I work parttime with disadvantaged families who work just as hard and they have my sympathy.
I havent heard of what will eventually happen to Kaaza and if it will end up like Napster, but for now the site is still open and you can still download, which makes me suspicious. There will be more prosecuted in the near future.
