This is not a review on F1 season 2005. This is a list of my top 10 drivers in Formula One...... of all time. Sorry, I am writing under this topic because there is no suitable catgory right now!
10. Nelson Piquet
This determined Brazillian did not let anything stop him- not even his fathers opposition. When he joined Williams in 1986, one of the most fierce rivalries occured in the history of the sport because Piquet was in direct competition with Nigel Mansell, another F1 great. Piquet won the world title in 1987 and is now promoting the career of his son.
9. Keke Rosberg
Here is another driver who took the championship driving a Williams. he made his F1 debut at the late age of 29. After winning the drivers title in 1982, he shifted to McLaren in 1986 where, to his horror, competitive machinery could not be made. Lack of power and reliability in the McLaren package forced him to retire in 1986.
8. Kimi Raikkonen
What is this young fella doing in this list? you ask. here is the answer- Kimi raikkonen is undoubtedly quick and at times, unbeatable! he made his F1 debut in 2001 and nearly won the drivers title in 2003 and 2005. There is speculation that the Flying Finn is going to join ferrari in 2007. for more info on this guy, read my review on him.
7. Emmerrson Fittipaldi
Here is another Brazillian who won the drivers title! Indeed, Brazillians have churned many talented and gifted F1 drivers. he was born in 1946 at Sao Paulo and has won both CART and F1 titles in his illustrious career. He won the drivers title in 1972 by winning five out of the eleben races that year.
6. John Surtees
Arguably the greatest motorsport personality of all time, John was the first bloke to conquer both Moto GP and F1 . No one has repeated the feat to this date, although Italian Valentino Rossi looks very determined to do it. He was born in Surrey, England and made his F1 debut for Lotus in 1960. He won the 1964 drivers championship. He won 8 races and scored 180 points in his F1 career.
5. Alain Prost
This guy needs absolutely no introduction! Okay, but I will still give an introduction. Prost is a three-time world champion who won 30 races in his illustrious formula one racing career. He was nicknamed the Professor and the calculator for his immensely smooth driving style.
4. Nigel Mansell
He is now the archetypical Formula 1 champion and veteran. he won the drivers title in 1992 for, you guessed it, Williams! Look where they were a decade ago and look where they are now. Anyway, he also had a short stint (two races) at McLaren in the later part of his career.
3. Gilles Villeneuve
This man is the only Canadian on the list. He is also one of the only drivers on this list never to have won a world championship. He has made it here purely on the basis of his undeniable talent and unquestionable commitment. Too bad his son, Jacques Villeneuve, did not inherit any of his fathers talent.
2. Michael Scumacher
This german made his F1 debut in 1991 at Spa. He is a seven time world champion and he has won over 80 F1 races. Need I say more? if you want to know more, simply check out my review on this guy.
1. Ayrton Senna
Another BRAZILLIAN! But this guy has to be the greatest F1 driver of all time. Unfortunately, he died in a car crash on the racetrack in 1994. He was already a two-time world champion by then and had grabbed more than sixty pole-positions.
BEST OF THE CURRENT LOT
M.Scumacher
K.Raikkonen
F.Alonso
J.Montoya
J.Button
GUYS WHO JUST MISSED OUT
Mika Hakkinen
Gerhard Berger
Fernando Alonso
Stirling Moss
Damon Hill
