We had not gone for any vacations for three years. We decided on Munnar when we were in Kerala this time for a break for 2 nights and three days.
The drive from my native town to Munnar was a seven hours journey. It was tiring and we almost fell apart, going further only in anticipation of a something good that lay ahead. We reached Munnar but there was no sight of the Fort Munnar Hotel we booked. We were misdirected by our Google maps GPS and were worried as sunset set in. Thankfully the driver with help of some info from locals set for the right direction. As we moved near the Hotel, the extra half an hour drive was worth the effort. Mist was covering us and it was chilly as we neared the hotel, not to speak of the greens that Munnar is famous for.
The staff at Fort Munnar was warm and cordial welcoming us with a welcome drink. Rooms were elegant and spacious for the family of three. I would recommend Fort Munnar to anyone going to Munnar. When we booked it was around 4.5k INR for the room. We missed the room on the first floor which had a better view because none were vacant.
In the evening there was bonfire and some music. It suited us although a big gathering there would have made it more enjoyable. The food at the Hotel was also good.
Next day we made a trip for elephant ride. My son first time sat on elephant and remembers it till now. The elephants with us on back are taken for some 50-60 meters and dropped back. We can also feed the elephant at the end of the ride.
Echo point was also worth going. Echo was worth experiencing. Many stalls also displayed some nice and cheap items to buy.
The most important part of the trip was the tea gardens and the green surroundings of Munnar. In the air you could feel the freshness and could be mesmerized by the scenery.
A word of caution though: please drive safely to this place and please take special care while treading the roads and narrow lanes while not missing the view from the window of your car.
