Don't waste your money in Fortis

This hospital is all about marketing and lay a lot of stress on the outside impression - have sweepers and painters all over the place all the time, have automatic machine to print visitor pass, central air conditioned, restrict visitors with mask, shoes. And they charge huge money.

Don’t be fooled by all this and think that this is a nice place for treatment. Infact, the treatment of patient offered in this place is worse than an average hospital! The main goal here is not to treat the patient, but keep him for maximum time in ICU to fulfill their occupancy targets.

My uncle was treated here for brain hemorrhage, and here is how fortis has disappointed me:

1.The doctor who performed brain surgery was an MBBS and not even an MD!. He was not competent and did know it well, which I came to know when I transferred my uncle to a different hospital. The fortis doctor had touched the brain cells (called swabbing) which destroyed brain cells - this was not at all necessary. Obviously his aim was not to cure but keep him alive to prolong his ICU stay.

2.The tracheotomy tube installed in my uncle had to be replaced every week, but it was never replaced for a month. Looking at ICU cleanliness and mask requirements, etc. I thought that the patient care must be nice. I only came to know of this when I changed the hospital. my uncle was supposed to be discharged in 3 weeks, but had to stay more weeks because of chest infections - no wonder now I came to know why they did not change his tracheotomy tube.

3.The doctors tell plain lies and think that family member is an idiot. When I asked him whether my uncle was in a coma, the doctor said there is no term "coma" in medical science, and that my uncle is just having a different level of consciousness - which will keep improving as he is continuing his stay in ICU.  When I asked that when will he regain consciousness, he told it can happen even the next day. This hope kept the family members pumping money to the hospital by taking loans to keep the treatment going. I came to know of this utter lies when I did some internet research - there is no case when a person in coma suddenly regains consciousness. There is no treatment in the world to cure brain cells in coma, the only thing fortis was actually doing was a nursing care which would have been done in any other hospital at one-tenth the cost.

4.The doctors hide all sorts of problems under the hood, which the family members do not get aware. When my uncle was shifted to the other hospital, the other hospital doctor was surprised to see major bed sores and was even more surprised when he came to know they happened while my uncle was all the time in special ICU! (special ICU is the ultimate care facility)

5.Doctors do not come in time during the meeting hours with the patient family members, and we had to wait with in the general queue of OPD patients to meet the doctor everyday. The doctors were rude,  try to make the meeting as brief as possible without telling exact details. When I complained about their rudeness to the counselor, the counselor suggested  "don’t mind it is human nature of the doctor. The doctor is good at heart and do not mind his arrogant attitude".

6.This is not a major issue - but an annoyance. When family members  are coming out of ICU, they are pestered by seeming fortis personnel with questions about how is your patient doing, etc. They are actually volunteers who work for free and their aim is to create statistics for their personal projects, and hospital aim to to make the patient feel important when someone appears to be concerned about their family members health. Don’t worry about what you tell these volunteers, as it is a school project meant to fool the members to think that their patient is being cared for. Another marketing stunt aimed at manipulating the family members!

In summary, I would not recommend anyone to go to Fortis unless you have a lot of money or want to satisfy dumb people who think that best place for treatment must be the one which is most expensive.
