Change in attitude and system improvement needed.

My wife was admitted on 23rd Jan 2024 bed no.1825 for spine surgery. Surgery was done by a team of surgeons headed by Dr.Vikas Gupte and it was successful. Dr.Sanjay Shah an eminent doctor in general medicine was my doctor under whose supervision my wife was admitted. My wife had earlier undergone two surgeries earlier which were also successful. I appreciate the skill level of the doctors and the infrastructure provided by the hospital. While the hospital charges exorbitant charges they should also give commensurate services.

I have observed the following deficiencies in service.

1. Nursing staff needs basic training in Hindi spoken language. Since the hospital recruits directly from nursing institutes they lack training in behavioral science and should be taught importance of their profession and they should be compassionate towards patients.

2. Team leader Mrs Suvarna acts like a school clerk and doesn’t assert herself. She is completely cut off from the main function and acts as if she is not responsible.

3. How to handle emergencies is not taught. They become panic and don’t know how to immediately act in a given situation.

4. Importance of timing is not taught. My experience is, if the doctor prescribes medicine at 10 am I get the medicine at 2 pm. Pharmacy and the nurse’s dept should work in tandem and be very quick in providing immediate medicine or else golden hours are lost and may be detrimental to patient’s health.

5. Lower level staff Mausis or Ayas are a law unto themselves.

If they are called by the patients to clean they think they are obliging by doing that duty. If you press the bell they see it and hide somewhere.

Barring one or two viz. Ashwini and Shraddha who are good at work, others give us lectures and think they are obliging us. Specially Anita Shinde and Haseena are of this category.

My view is for a 45 bed ward, two Ayas are not sufficient. Hospital should provide more Ayas. In a hospital patients’ needs are met by not only doctors and nurses but also Ayas or Mausis. They are very important for a patient and they should be available at the patients’ beck and call. Here you call hundred times no body attends.

6. No body is accountable. Accountability concept has to be introduced. Everybody should know their responsibility.

These are only few suggestions I have given, Please implement these. It hurts when we pay these high charges it is natural to expect equivalent service.

Last but not the least is this hospital has good infrastructure, very competent doctors and a brand name please don’t allow it to be tarnished.
