The Great Aussie

Kingfisher ruled Indian beer goers throughout the late eighties. Nineties, too, started with a bang for the makers of Kingfisher beer. And then there came a rival that divided the Kingfisher market. And they did it with style!

Australian for beer seemed to be the slogan of the decade. The unchallenged throne of Kingfisher had to make way for its Australian counterpart.

FOSTERS had arrived!

BRIEF DETAILS

The 2.5 billion dollar Fosters Group is an Australian brewery. When they decided to launch their product in India, they zeroed down on Aurangabad as their base in India. Fosters is sold in Goa, Daman and Maharashtra through a network of 25 distributors.

Very soon, Fosters established themselves in India. By July 2000, India became the fourth largest market for the Fosters Group, after UK, Australia and the US. Now, that’s what I call Beer crazy nations! Cheers!

Fosters beer is a lager beer. Now, what is a lager. Quite simply, it’s not an ale. Lagers are brewed with bottom yeasts. They are dryer, paler and less alcoholic than ales. Lagers are fermented at cooler temperatures.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

For me, Kingfisher still reigns supreme. (Now, now! All ye Fosters Fans....remove that scorn from your faces!)

But yes! Fosters definitely gives me that much needed change. I found this beer highly refreshing, and much suited to the Indian taste, unlike the world famous German Beers. Fosters has just the right amount of fermentation, and definitely makes for a refreshing Sunday afternoon drink. I have also found that Fosters makes my evenings enjoyable, especially if I have had a tiring day, in the hot sunrays of Mumbai.

I staunchly believe that one should know how to pour his beer in the glass. Too little fizz and too much foam, both spoil your first sip. And yes! First sip matters! The right way to fill a glass of beer is to tilt the glass at 60 degrees and slowly pour the beer. Midway through the pouring, gradually start straightening the glass. Be sure that it is not too gradual, or else you may have to sip plain beer, watching the fun-filled fizz right there in the bottle. The end result should be four parts beer and one part foam, so as that the first sip gives you the beer & foam taste together. Enjoy it!

IN CONCLUSION

Yeah! The review is short. But hell, what else do you expect from a beer review? There’s no point in extending it for the heck of it, is there? Suffice to say that Fosters beer is a fantastic beer!

Try it!
