Frankfurt airport, one of the major hub airports of the world does itself full justice to the awe it enjoys. 250+ gates with more than 3 planes landing/taking off every minute, its simply world class.
Many of the immigration staff still have the soft racial discrimination attitude but the airport by far is one of the best I have ever seen. Such clearly indicated signs, well manned airport facilities, baggage handling; simply superb.
The duty free arena is good for chocolates & alcohol while the handicrafts, leatherware etc are on the expensive side. It is very easy to get lost in this terminal but equally easy to find your way back as well.
Just beware when you are moving around the terminal. You may accidentally step out of the transit section ie technically you have departed the terminal. Then you need to stand in a long que to check-in again & explain to the officer that you stepped out by mistake. S/he will stare at you once but will help you. However, the time consumed may be more thereby leading to a missed connection.
