Free Download Manager (FDM), as the name suggests is free software.
FDM enables downloading at faster rate which is a boon especially for low speed internet users. It gains this speed as it breaks up the downloads into multiple sections and downloads all the sections simultaneously which increases the speed almost 10 times than normal download. It also gives us the freedom to download data as per our convenience and disconnection in between doesn’t matter as it supports resume function. Downloads supporting resume function are shown in green colour and the ones which do not support resume function are shown in red and have to be started all over again if stopped in between.
FDM also has opinions option which keeps track of opinions about download by its users and informs us if its malicious or not. FDM also downloads FLV videos from sites like googlevideo or youtube and has automatic conversion feature on completion of download.
FDM also has a uploader to upload data.
FDM also has a full fledged scheduler which can initiate or terminate any process required at specified time once or on the days in a week you select.
FDM also comes with bittorrent support so that you do not have to install any other bit torrent client for your torrent downloads.
FDM downloads are saved in folder named download where the downloaded files are automatically categorized by FDM as software, music, videos and others based on their extensions.
FDM also facilitates antivirus check of downloaded files as soon as the download is finished. FDM can hangup dialup connection or shutdown PC on completion of download if opted for.
FDM also provides you option Site Manager to manage your website. FDM acts as FTP manager here.
You can control your download traffic by just clicking a button. You have three options ie. Heavy, Medium and Light mode which determines number of simultaneous downloads, maximum speed allowed, etc which can be set to our choice in options. FDM has a option where speed of download is automatically altered when browser activity is detected and reversed when finished.
It can monitor downloads from Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Netscape, Apple Safari and SeaMonkey.
