The series focuses on the friendship of three men and three women who frequently gather at each other’s apartments and share sofa space at Greenwich Village’s Central Perk’ coffee house. Monica Gellar, a chef, Phoebe Buffay, an aspiring musical performer and part-time masseuse, Joey Tribbiani, an actor, Chandler Bing, who works at a boring office job, and Monica’s older brother, Dr. Ross Gellar, a palaeontologist - remain together in New York City, during good times and bad. Ross is a sensitive, hopeless romantic who lives in the same apartment building as his sometime girlfriend, Rachel, who shares an apartment with Monica. Joey and Chandler are roommates across the hall from the women, and Phoebe is frequent visitor. All are between twenty and thirty years old.
