Hmmmm.... Fujairah.... I wonder if many have heard of this small coastal town on the shores of the gulf of oman on the eastern side of the United Arab Emirates. Its a small laid back township which is considered as a weekend getaway spot for people across the emirates. Around 1.5 hours drive from Dubai, Fujairah is a natural port. It has a long coastline of beaches. The authorities have built clean corniches along the beaches. The important beaches are located at Khor Fakkan, Khalba and Al Faseel.
Fujairah doesnt have oil resources of its own, but it does its contribution to the emirates by providing oil bunkering facilities. Some interesting spots in Fujairah include the Museum, Khalba Hot Water Springs, Khor Fakkan beaches, Fujairah Fort, Al Bithna Mosque and many other archeological sites. On the evnts side, Fujairah hosts a local bull fight near khalba every friday evenings and there are Desert Safaris which take you out into the desert, camp there, entertain you with belly dance and authentic arabian food etc and drop you back at your hotel. For those who like water sports, you can try the Jet Ski, Para Skiing, Yatching or even fishing - all provided by the Fujairah Marine Club. The Hilton Hotel, Al Dior Siji and Le Meridien are some good hotels located in fujairah. But you might consider staying in Dubai or Sharjah and travelling to fujairah.
Fujairah is a very economical place where you can drive from one end of the city to another for 20 Dhs. It has an international airport, but easier access route is to fly to Dubai or Sharjah and take a cab from there to Fujairah. Fujairah has a range of restaurants covering the indian, chinese, turtish, lebanese and persian cuisines. The ideal time to visit fujairah would be during the months of January to March. If you happen to be in Middle East, its worth a drive to visit Fujairah.
But then, its just like many places in Kerala. So, if you are from kerala, you might fujairah very much boring. Again if you are in Middle East, then do visit the place. It will be fresh change compared to other places in UAE.
