When Abhinav Bindra did India proud by winning first ever Gold medal as an individual, the newspapers splashed his pictures on the front page as he deserved.
The politicians in order to take benefit of this limelight started meeting him and announced lakhs and crores of rupees in prize to him for winning gold medal, even the Municipal Corporation of Delhi who does not have enough money to provide basic civic amenities to its citizens announced lakhs of rupees as prize to him. Do you think it is a good thing they did?
Considering the fact that Abhinav Bindra lives in a palatial house, has his own shooting range, has already crores and crores of rupees in his own name what good this will do to him?
First the Govt does not spend enough on providing proper training facilities of international standards to deserving sports persons, sports ministry spends more money on sending a greater number of officials in Olympics than the sports persons.
Abhinav Bindra won due to his own efforts because he had the kind of resouces he could spend on sports but mojority of sports persons do not have this fortune.
If India really wants to excel in Olympics don’t you think that the Govt. needs to spend the tax payers money in providing good diet and sports facilities to sports persons instead of wasting money on giving cash prizes. Someone already a billionaire would be happy enough to get the presidential and state honors.
