Game Changer, released on January 10, 2025, is one of the most awaited Telugu films. The film is directed by the renowned S. Shankar, who is making his debut in Telugu cinema. The lead roles are played by Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, S.J. Suryah, Anjali, and Srikanth. The film is about political corruption and justice. I watched Game Changer as I had heard a lot about the high-voltage Telugu movies and their action-packed narratives. The film is not like your typical political drama. Here’s my no-spoiler review.
The Plot:
The lead actor is Ram Charan, who plays the role of an IAS officer, Ram Nandan, and fights against corruption. He takes on the corrupt politician Mopidevi while trying to clean up the corruption that exists in Visakhapatnam. For Ram Charan, the film is a double role, wherein he plays Appanna, an activist from a rural background speaking for the downtrodden. The fight for justice and fair elections unfold the harsh realities of the Indian political system. The film explores their intense conflict, highlighting integrity, justice, and social service themes. Deepika(Kiara Advani), plays a crucial role in moderating Ram’s anger and helps him pursue his career in civil services.
Performances:
Both the protagonist, played by Ram Charan, and antagonist, Mopidevi played by S.J. Suryah shine with their performances. Their dialogues, actions, and distinct styles elevate the level of conflict. Ram’s seamless transition between an IAS officer and an activist shows his range of performances. His acting is versatile, with a more charismatic personality for Ram Nandan and a heartfelt emotional role for Appanna. Kiara Advani, as Deepika, complements Ram Charan well and portrays a supportive partner who helps Ram achieve all his goals. Even the character of Parvathy is outstanding and adds emotional weight to Appanna’s role. All-in-all, everybody played their roles fittingly.
Standout Elements:
There were several standout moments from the film, the most noteworthy being the direction by S. Shankar. He is known for his grand style of storytelling and he brings his signature flair in this political drama without going overboard. Music by Thaman. S is beautiful and the tracks suit the storyline perfectly. Due to its high production value, the films look visually stunning, with beautiful locations and backgrounds. The action sequences look realistic and the BGM elevates the emotional scenes. The visual storytelling by cinematographer S. Thirunavukkarasu captures the essence of the narrative beautifully while keeping the essence of a political drama. The film is a perfect balance between drama, action, and social message.
Should You Watch It?
If you are a big fan of Telugu cinema and love to try out political dramas and thrillers, Game Changer is a must-watch. It is the perfect start to 2025 for the Telugu film industry. All actors, especially Ram Charan, play outstanding roles. While the plot might be similar to most political dramas, there are still cliffhangers that will keep you hooked till the end. The film is well-paced and the visuals and music keep you entertained throughout the film.
