A cool Saturday morning... The night’s stormy rain has attacked our plantains, jackfruit tree and many. Our little jungle around the house has a melancholic look. But the air is minty cool, fresh and thrilling…..all-together…it is like a film that I happened to watch called “Gangster”.
It ran for more than a month in Cochi and Kozhikode. It is absolutely a rare affair for a Hindi film in Kerala. So I too wanted to check it out. And found it as a classic!
Story
Gangster Daya Shankar(Shiney Ahuja)’s wife Simran (Kangana Ranaut) meets Aakash (Emran Hashmi) in a bar in Seoul- South Korea. She is a drunkard. Aakash befriends her and brings a little dream of a family life. She reveals her past to him. ….how did she meet Daya Shankar and why she is forced to live in Seoul after the death of their adopted child.
Now spring and winter return to her life together. Daya Shankar comes back to take her. Then how the three chase their dreams forms the rest.
It is amazing!!!
The way Anurag Basu visualized the story is simply matchless. The scenes and the script are brilliant. Watch the scene where Emran Hashmi chases Kangana to her home in the beginning. It will wide open your mouth. You will forget that you are watching a Hindi film. The visuals are even better than those by Mani Ratnam, Ram Gopal Varma or Gautam Menon. The script is outstanding. The loneliness, agony of being deserted, the chase for the goals, everything is woven brilliantly to the script. This is probably the best film made by Mahesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films. The cinematography by Bobby Singh, Music by Pritam, Lyrics by Sayeed Quadri, Neelesh Mishra and Mayur, and art direction by Rajat Poddar are …..Dazzling!
Everything is Impressive except that last scene which is inspired by that of "Gladiator".
Acting Performances
I haven’t watched any other film of the lead pair Shiney Ahuja and Kangana Ranaut. I know that this was the first film of Kangana. And what a performance she delivered! She should be given this year’s National Award for Best Actress. I want to watch her new films released, if any. Shiney Ahuja also leaves his impact on us. Emran Hashmi is once again asked to kiss but not only that, he acted really well. His acting is natural and effortless. He is definitely better than one Shahrukh or Salman when it comes to natural acting. But his looks will not make him a star.
So….
If you do not want to miss a classic made in Hindi, go and watch Anurag Basu’s “Gangster”!
