There have been a flow of hopeless love stories, sorry comedies and insane ganster movies in bollywood in the past. Gangster had given me no indication that it would be any different looking at the trailers.. It looked like the usual Emraan Hashmi movie..
Still, I went to watch it because the songs were good and struck a chord.. And it turned out to be a really pleasant surprise. Guys, go and watch this movie. Atleast, if you are the type of person who liked its songs, you would definitely appreciate the movie..
I would not like to reveal the plot of the movie, but its a neat storyline with only a few flaws.. Most of the movie is in flashback and I believe it is difficult to create a good suspense in flashback. However, Gangster succeeds effortlessly. The heroine, Kangana Ranaut, is a fresh face and is truly blessed with expressive eyes. The better part of the movie is that it speaks more with expressions and eyes, rather than conversations. Indeed, conversations do seem a bit stretched sometimes.
Regarding the movies beginning, it came as a sort of a rude awakening because the heroines voice seems a bit out of place and hoarse in her narration. But it falls to place in the later half of the movie.
Emraan Hashmi is decent without being superb... And in some scenes he does come across as a bit artificial and plaster faced... But maybe at the end of the movie you might realise that it was necessary!!!
The other hero, Shiney Ahuja, has a wonderful screen presence. He cries with his eyes very nicely. He has very very few dialogues in the movie.. And there is a scene in which he breaks down. But most of the audience were giggling when he broke down. Other than a few scenes, He is really likeable and I am looking forward to watching his previous and future films.
Regarding the famous or notorious kissing scenes... There is a scene in the movie where Emraan Hashmi comes pretty close to the girl to kiss her and then walks away! Somebody in the audience shouted Saala, aadat se majboor hai, Vaapis aayega!! And sure, he does not disappoint. But the Heroine looks cute and the lovemaking scene blends well with the movie storyline.
Songs are very nice and most probably you will come out of the movie humming YA ALI...They dont drag the storyline at all
Overall, its a pretty good movie which keeps you engrossed throughout.. 100 bucks well spent!!
