A magnificent movie from the BHATTS!!!

The Bhatts always give something the best. The new ‘best’ thing from the Bhatts is Gangster!

The story of the movie: Simran (Kangana Ranaut), an alcoholic, lives in Seoul. She had found a friend in Akash (Emraan Hashmi), a singer who used to sing in a club. She was tensed every now and then, because of her past. The past, in which she used to work in a bar in Mumbai. And Daya(Shiney Ahuja), India’s most wanted gangster freed her from her horrible job. Then the two falled in love. But Daya could not stay with her everyday, as he was a criminal. He then shifted to Mauritius while Simran shifted to Seoul. Simran used to get Daya’s calls only once a week which made her very angry. And now, she starts loving Akash and slowly slowly starts forgetting Daya. She started living her life once again. But Daya was still there who loved her very much. And one day, Daya reached Seoul and saw Simran and Akash kissing each other. So what will happen next? Who will Simran choose-Daya, who loved her selflessly or Akash-who taught her to live again?

Shiney Ahuja is fabulous! He speaks very less in the movie because most of the times his eyes speaks up. He acts more brilliantly then his character had expected. Throughout the movie, he acts very properly, as his character demanded and gave the best. Really, Shiney Ahuja’s performance is one of the best performances of 2006 for me!

Emraan Hashmi looks like a decent human being, in his new look! After the interval, his role changes a bit and so does his expressions and acting. He was far good and I hope our audiences appreciate his role!

Newcomer Kangana Ranaut’s acting is nice and perfect, but still she has to learn acting. She delivers dialogues very properly. Her hairstyle, in some scenes, was horrible! Gulshan Grover, who plays the baddie here, was present in only two scenes. But his performance was splendid. Others were good.

Pritam’s music was evergreen. The songs were outstanding! The songs ‘Bheegi Bheegi’ and ‘Ya Ali’ rocks!Zubeen and James(the singers from Pakistan and Bangladesh respectively) sang the song perfectly. ‘Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai’ was also quite good. Lyrics were soothing. Cinematography was fantastic and excellent.

Anurag Basu’s direction was applauding and excellent! Really man! The director does not show any unwanted scenes. Nor he adds songs to drag the movie. The movie has a lot of surprises, especially in the second half. A lot of unexpected twists take place in the second half. The first half is okay and likeable. The scenes, the performances and the direction in the second half are such that it will really touch your heart. The story is excellent and it is not based on Abu Salem’s life!

The excellent scenes of the movie:

  1. The beginning scene

  2. The scene where Simran tells her past to Akash

  3. The scene where Khan (Gulshan Grover) meets Daya in the second half

  4. The climax

On the whole, Gangster deserves to be watched! Watch it for songs, watch it for the performances, watch it for the direction.. just go and watch it! Gangster proves that the Bhatt camp always gives the finest movies to the moviegoers. I hope the Bhatts give such excellent movies in future too!!
