One often complains of a good story getting ruined in inept hands. Fortunately, that doesnt happen with Gangster. The film is gripping that holds your interest from start to end. The film involves you gradually and midway through the film, you wait with bated breath for the events to unfold.
However, the climax, the culmination of the saga, is the best part of the enterprise. The finale is apt – emotional by nature and perfect in the context of the story. The sensitive handling of the climax and the brilliant portrayal by the principal artistes stays in your heart even after the show has ended. From the wiring point of view as well, it seems like the most appropriate culmination.
Director Anurag Basu marries form [technique] and content [script] beautifully. Technically speaking, Gangster is amongst the most refined films India has produced. Each and every sequence are expertly executed and are akin to the icing on a delicious pudding.
Anurag has also shot the film well. His shot execution is very contemporary .More than anything else, he has handled the story with amazing flourish. The encounter at the very start of the film , also the sequence when the Kangana narrates her journey is simply outstanding.A number of outstanding sequnces lingers in your memory ever after you have leave the hall
-Kangana running from the pillar to post to get a hold of wine.
-The sequence at the press conference where you get the shock of your life.
-The seoul airport portions are simply striking .
Screenplay is almost flawless… and bold at the same time.
Music is mellifluous; it gels well with the film. Ya Ali is the pick of the lot, more so because of its rich lyrical value. Cinematography is of international standards.
Dialogues are brilliant. Ranging from poetic to acidic , the dialogues add sheen to the enterprise.
Performance-wise, Gangster rests on two strong shoulders –Shiney and Kangana. Shiney transforms into Daya with such correctness that its impossible to believe that its an actor portraying a part. He is so believable. With this film, besides HKA, the actors not merely takes a step forward, but plunges ahead with a giant leap. But the actual hero of the film is definitely Kangana, who will walk away with all laurels at the end of the day. She oozes intensity, love, hate, relentlessness with perfection.
Emraan is first-rate, making you realise that heres a reservoir of talent that needs to be tapped. Heres an actor who deserves to be picked up by qualitative film-makers.
Gulshan is natural to the core.
A MOVIE OF LIFETIME!
