Priyadarshan’s Garam Masala is an out and out guy flick ....ladies please watch it at your own risk
The 3 air-hostesses are shown to be sooo dumb that one shudders to think how they would respond to
any emergency situation aboard their aircraft . The worst of the lot is Riimi Sen’s character , she’s shown to be a doctor (who I feel are really smart people)
But inspite of being trampled on all over the place by Akshay , it’s really mind - boggling why she accepts him in the end ..
Women are really shown in a bad light in the movie ...
Anyways , that aside ..the movie is interesting and funny in parts .
Its basically about 2 good for nothing phtographers who share a love-hate relationship and are always playing a game of one upmanship with each other .
One of them (John) who is supposed to be Akshays assistant , pilfers someone else’s photographs and send it as his entry for some photography competition . He wins and as a result gets promoted over Akshay and is sent to the US for a vacation . This angers Askhay and (this is the confusing part!! ) decides to have affairs with 3 air hostesses . Akshay gets an additional job as a caretaker of a large house and he juggles his 3 airhostess girl friends with a little help from his cook (Paresh Rawal ) and friend (Rajpal Yadav) .
When John returns from the US , he sees Akshay having a whale of a time and wants a part of the action . He first tries to sabotage Akshays’ 3 timing ( or is it 4 timing??) , but later turns over a new leaf and helps Askhay in his juggling act .
The plot is really thin and doesnt pack the punch of a Hera Pheri ...what saves the movie are the actors . Akshay is outstanding and in as much form as he was in Khaakee and Muzhse Shaadi Karogi. His comic timing is second to none in the Hindi film industry . Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav are outstanding too ... As far as John Abraham goes . you can make out that he’s new to comedy . He goes over the top far too often ...There are a few shots of him bare chested and I guess that itself would bring quite a few audience members again and again to watch the movies .
The women have no role worth talking about . whether its Rimii Sen as Akshay’s fiance or Neha Dhupia as the hot secretary whose attentions John and Akshay vie for in the first half of the film ..There are a lot of unexplained threads in the story ...Where does Akshay get the time to do photography when all his waking hours are spent juggling the 3 beauties? Why doesnt Rimii Sen dump Akshay inspite of the way he treats her ? Where does Akshay get the money to live such a lavish lifestyle ? Then again , these arent questions one shd ask when he goes to see a comedy movie .....u just take off ur thinking cap and enjooyyyyy... I recommend that u do the same and enjoy the Masala...
