Non-edible masala

Director Priyadarshan reunites with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal for yet another rib-tickling comedy after HERA PHERI.

Given the success of Priyadarshans last two releases HUNGAMA and HULCHUL....the hype that surrounds the movie due to huge publicity campaign and Diwali release..and the combination of 2 icons-Akshay Kumar and John Abraham coming together for the first time the expectations are enormous!

But the question is whether ’’Garam Masala’’ is actually a very good film. I´ll have to shake my head sideways in response to that question.

The movie tries so hard to be very entertaining and in doing so, misses the mark entirely.

Forget Hungama or Hera Pheri, Garam Masala doesn´t even come close to the humour of Hulchul.

Garam Masala tells the story of Akshay Kumar-a photographer who isn’t too great at his profession. He has a junior assistant John Abraham. The two share a love-hate relationship and are always looking at ways to outdo each other in life be it their careers, money or women.

Due to a twist of fate John gets a promotion, the girl of his dreams whom Akshay was also after [Neha Dhupia]as well as a free trip to America.

Akshay decides to pull of the ultimate game. With the help of his trusty assitant[Rajpal Yadav], Akshay organises himself to housesit a mansion.

His money hungry boss who Akshay bribes introduces him to three ugly air hostesses

They all believe Akshay is a rich businessmen and Akshay manages to make each one fall in love with him. None of the three girls know that Mac is playing all three of them at once!

To add to the comedy there is the grumpy ’’bawarchi’’ Uncle Paresh Rawal who only likes to do anything once.

Akshay convinces Paresho to help him out in his con and everything is going smoothly...until John arrives back!

John blackmails Akshay into moving in to this mansion as well but John intentions are to actually steal Akshay’s three hostesses away from him...

The climax sequence is so poorly shot that it is a downright embarrassment. The audience was groaning and at this stage a lot of people walked out even.

Loosely inspired by Boeing Boeing , GM is washout from the word go!.The drawback lies in the fact that the narrative focuses on the tried-and-tested stuff that has been witnessed umpteen times in earlier films.

The novelty is lost in the process – it’s not difficult for the viewer to presume what the next sequence would be.

The story of the movie is literally non existent. No doubt the plot takes a backseat in any Priyadarshan film..but here the story is so wafterthin that there is hardly anything there at all to keep the viewer hooked to their seat.

The first half is loud comedy while second half is a tedious excerice to sit through! It tries far too hard to be funny. Comic situations are forced into here, there and everywhere. Improbable situations are created in the plot just to pass the time.

As a director this is one of Priyadarshan’s worst attempts It appears that he has rushed this product and lost interest mid-way during the making of film! Unlike Hungama and Hera Pheri which were truly hilarious Garam Masala is painful!
