Garam Masala- The film is funny which means it hits its mark as a comedy. The main actors are Akshay Kumar and John Abraham. Akshay kumar a seasoned actor with a string of successes behind him gives a very strong performance although this is first attempt at straight comedy he is a funny enough person, which means he can make you laugh. John Abraham is an actor who doesn’t have much to say for himself as an actor, this is also is first attempt at straight comedy he produces a decent performance which is more than can be said about his lackluster performance in some other movies. He is not a very funny person but he got himself a few laughs.
The film is about two guys Makrand popularly known as Mac (Akshay Kumar) and Shyam also known as Sam (John Abraham).They are both photographers for a magazine called Garam Masala in Mauritius. They both like girls and are neither serious nor talented photographers. Mac who is the senior between them doesn’t hesitate to boss Sam around and blame him for anything that goes wrong, but on the whole he is the more honest of the two. Though both of them are not exactly best buddies at the beginning they lived together and had a growing friendship. They both compete with each other for the attentions of Maggie a receptionist at their office. She doesn’t really show preference for any of them just keeps both of them hanging. Sam cheats and wins the international press photography award; he is promoted over Mac, given the key to their bike and flat and also given a million. His increase in wealth and status wins Maggie over to his side. Mac feels betrayed and jealous of Sam and the fact that he won Maggie’s affections. Sam is also awarded a free trip to America. In his absence Mac with the help of their chief editor ropes himself three airhostesses, and with the help of another friend he gets a house, a man servant and cars because his friend was a mechanic. He proposes to the three girls and so their affair begins. The major humor in this film is attributed to the problems of managing three women separately. Enter Sam back from America he catches a glimpse of Macs world and he wants in. He forces himself into Macs house and his life; he tries to have Mac transferred so he can take his place. Both of them have numerous quarrels but in the end they become close friends. The girls found out about their game so they have to take to their heels. Mac is forgiven by his real fiancé who he had always taken for granted until it was almost too late. They escape in a car but not until Mac had received painful admonitory whacks from irate airhostesses.
Fans of comedy films will definitely not be disappointed in this film. The man servant Mambo gave an excellent performance and he was very funny and the songs are entertaining. Although the film has nothing to say for itself in the plot department so I wouldn’t advise deep thinkers to watch it, but if you are just looking for a good laugh this film is definitely for you.
