Jon: Life.....This is it, Garfield
Garfield makes no reply as he is busy with his meal
Jon: This is all there is to it!
Garfield [shocked]: You mean no dessert?
Jon: I am trying to decide which would be more exercise? Running around the block.....or running around you.
Garfield [showg his claws]: How about running FROM me, smart guy?
Jon: Wow! What a beautiful sunset! What can be more beautiful than this?
Garfield: I was going to say Tuna salad!

Besides my pet pooch Kunni, if there is some else who can make smile everytime I look at him [even on a killing monday morning!] ; its the stripy cute rollypolly thinking cat Garfield [fatcat or mottibilli]. When recently talking about my habits n laziness, a cheeky friend called me incorrigible, I laughed thinking well, I do know someone who is much much more lazier than moi. I thought of Garf & his term for laziness being in deep thought. Wish it was easy for us humans to get away with such clever terminology!

Meowwwww! Garfs here
We all should be pretty familiar with this cute overfed cat who is pet of one smarty who goes by the name Jon Arbuckle. What Jon adores in Garf is a big mystery till date coz Garf is a lazy, food loving, diet n exercise hating fatcat who also isnt too fond of Jon! Well, cant blame poor Garf here as the cat is more clever than his master! How Garf ended up with Jon is interesting too : Garfield was born in the kitchen of an Italian restaurant & as he grew so did his love for lasagna; soon the owner was unwilling to keep Garf & he was sold to a pet store from where Garf was purchased by a cartoonist Jon, who since then has quietly endured all the clowning around of his pet cat. Lazy to the core all Garf does whole day is wait for Jon to fill up his food plate or picking on the other pet in the house Odie [& of course entertain a few millions who read/watch him daily]
His antics with his owner, doggy pal, beloved teddy bear, Jons Mom, Dad & brother Doc Boy, the mailman [Garfs favorite victim], Jons friend Lyman, Garfs girlfriend Arlene & of course Nermal [worlds cutest kitten] bring many smiles on our face but here I would mention the ones I adore & who make reading/watching Garfield truly a pleasure:
Jon; the owner:
A loser whose life is made more miserable thanks to the crazy antics of his pet cat Garfield. Jon is a simpleton who wears plaid pant with striped shirts & is always looking out for a date; which he never gets with all those sidey pickup lines he uses to bait. However, even if Garf tolerates him only coz Jon keeps the lasagna coming, Jon is a great guy who tends for both of his pets & keeps them happy by letting them rule his home & life.
Odie; the dog:
I wonder what would Garf be without Odie? or what if Lyman Jons former roommate, the original owner of Odie would not leave him in Jons care when he moved out? Am glad none of that happened because Odie is the other charming character of the cartoon [helped by the fact that I am obsessed with Dogs!]. Odie is a drool machine, low on IQ but high on love dog, madly adores Garf [a dog adoring a cat? can only happen in cartoon, right?] always the victim of Garfs jokes, which this brainless dog seems to enjoy too. Garfs favourite line for Odie: Dogs are natures way of telling us we could be worse off.
Pooky; the stuffed teddy bear:
is the best friend Garf found in a dresser drawer & has since become his confidant as Garf shares his deepest thoughts with Pooky, who in return is always there to be hugged, to listen to Garf & whats more Pooky keeps silent too.[So its not only the girls who love cute n cuddly teddies, even the cats dig them! lolz]
Liz; the doc:
What would a lazy cat do without a vet? Dr. Liz Wilson is Garfields vet who has the dual duty of treating Garf & fending off Jon. Well, she did give Jon a fair chance when she went out with him on a few dates but each of them ends in disaster but Jon is a hopless optimist, as far as Liz is concerned.
Created by Jim Davis who explains that Garf is a human in a cat suit, Garf loves & does all things most of us humans love to do: laze around, watch TV, eating junk food [for Garf any food would do], guzzle unlimited coffee, hate exercise or diets and just like most of us he hates Monday mornings too! Garfield loves himself & he makes no big deal about showing off . He thinks so much like us, selfish when he needs to be & loving when need arises and yeah, he has an attitude to match! We all can relate to him & most of the times end up wishing we too could get away as tactfully as Garf does. What makes Garf more appealing is the fact that his sassy brand of humour & attitude is not only much accepted but has also made him famous!

My Word:
In these stressful times [esp. Monday mornings] humour is very important to keep us cheerful, giving us reasons for smiling and so my mornings start reading the paper, only for this comic strip that tells me abt what Garf is upto today! And if time permits, I check out the cartoon too coz with his droopy eyez & lazy voice Garf on telly is even better than on paper! Here is my favourite Garf Funda :
Nap often so you will be completely relaxed at bedtime!
