Shivpuri (Alaknanda): Rafting in GangaShivpuri is about 28km upstream from the town of Rishikesh. There are several camps in the stretch catering to the river rafting outfits. Operations usually continue from around October till April. Other months being part of the monsoon seasons rafting is not done.My rafting experience was great. It was a two day trip. We moved out on Saturday morning at around 4:00 A.M. Reached our destination - a camp near river Ganga. We were having great fun by that time. We stayed in camps right next to the river. I would warn you here that when its hot it is really hot. And indeed to kill the heat we have natural source available, the river flowing right next to you. Jump in and it cools your body off. After our lunch and bathing session in the water, our guide came into the picture. We were asked to get ourselves ready for the new adventure - trekking. Well everyone was enthusiastic about the experience and we really loved it. By evening we had trekked on strange and steep heights. All full of adventure! Only half of us survived in the race till end. But we reached at the top of the hill with some rock climbing and really fun. Clicked pictures here and there which will part of our lives. In the evening by 6:00 PM, we were all back. Then we had good samosas and pakoras with tea in the camp. By that time we also knew that there was no electricity in the camp and we will have to use the oil lamps for light at night. My cell phone was catching signals at times, but it was no point keeping it switched on as there was no source to get it charged and obviously I was there to enjoy the nature not for my usual work.At 8:00 PM we had a campfire and played music, got drunk and danced till 10:00 PM. After which we had our dinner ready and we had loads of Chicken. Cheers to the cooks in the camp that we were fed good food.By 12:00 we were all set for a sleep after a hectic day of adventure and fun.Oh! I woke up again at 6:00 in the morning by the chirping of birds and gals all around. Cheers! it was good as I looked at the river flowing by. And we were all set for the days adventures. We drove upstream till Shivpuri from our camp, where all of us were geared with caps and life-jackets. Then we set out to face the river in our raft. It was exhaustive but fun.For whom would you recommend this trip? For anyone who loves adventure, and wants to have real fun. My suggestion would be a team of atleast four people who go there cause you will be with your friends only out there in the water where you can enjoy not only the beauty but also some other experiences.I have created a page with pictures of my current trip.
