ACCIDENT AT GARUDA MALL

Many of MS readers would have come to know about a tragic incident that happened at Garuda Mall Bangalore, yesterday. A six year old boy who was leaning on to a hand rail on the 3rd floor accidentally slipped,  felt down and died. Our Heart felt condolences to the family.

Even though the Authorities of Garuda Mall cannot be blamed, there are some learnings from this incident to prevent any future calamities.

People who have visited Garuda know about the huge crowd that visit the Mall each day and hence a regulatory mechanism is required to put systems in place.

1.   All floors hand railing area should be covered by a wire mesh.

2.   There should be sign boards in all floors, clearly indicating where the emergency exit is.

3.   Hot lines to be provided in each floor connecting to emergency room having attendants during working hours

4.   A doctor must always be available with good first aid facilities.

5.   The central opening adjoining each floor should be covered by  a net so that even if someone falls, he falls over the net.

6.   The escalators/pathway leading to the car park is very complicated and many of us lose the way. Each floor level parking bay to be clearly identified. For example the 2nd level parking area to be subdivided into A-1 A-2 etc and sign boards should be present across the Mall reading "way to 2A-1 & 3B-2 etc.

7.   Mock fire drills to take place once in 3 months on a Sunday when crowd is present which will help the fire squad to train better.

I am sure many of you will have more suggestions which could be implemented across all Malls for ensuring Safety
