One of the best fictional books I have ever read. As it is based on a true event, I secretly wish the story is true. I loved this book and couldn’t keep it down even for a moment. The story is thrilling and inspiring and trumps the movie. Epic novel!
The book contains much exposition especially about sparta’s culture and this is usually bad. However here he has used it to truly bring the Spartans to life. The scenes of home life are touching, the battle scenes memorable and convincing. You are there as they fight and die. The pacing is not fast but perfect for the effect he is trying to create. Very thoughtful book and I loved it.
