Can you escape you genes?

This film represents a truly frightening view of the future, not one scarred by nuclear holocaust or famine or war but a future where you cannot escape yourself. Your effort in improving yourself as you would in this day and age by education and training goes for nothing as all the society looks at is your genetic makeup - something betrayed by every cell in your body.

I’m not going to go into the plot as you can read the previous review for a detailed plot description, but I’ll say that one man does manage to escape his genes and the lengths he goes to in achieving his dreams are astounding.

This film is an inspiration to those of us on or embarking on a difficult journey in life, it shows that there is a way round everything - if you are smart enough.

A saying goes that if you truly want something the world will conspire in helping you achieve it - this maxim and unsaid rule of the universe holds true even in the most adverse conditions as Gattaca shows.

On the technical side the cimematography and feel of the world of Gattaca are spot on, they manage create a retro, sterile future that is repulsive but weirdly attractive in the same sentence, if anyone has read or seen the European magazine Wallpaper* then then you will know what I mean.

Overall I would definitely recommend Gattaca - but devote some time to watch it properly and you will not be disappointed.
