This is a futuristic movie where men are discriminated according to their genes. This movie is dramatic and full of suspense and keeps you glued to the screen, You would never know what happens next. And the plot is pretty interesting.
Here the world is looking for perfection when it comes to genes. People are divided into two categories Valid and Invalid . The people who are born in the lab to create a perfect human specimen are known as Valid. They are given all the golden opportunities in life--jobs, wealth, etc. The people who were naturally bred are placed in the Invalid category and they make up the poor lower class.
One of the invalids is Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke), a young man who dreams of going to space. As a boy, Vincent discovers he is different from his younger brother Anton, who was bred in the lab and is a valid. He is perfect and strong human being without any deficiency whereas Vincent is weak and sickly and wears glasses that give away his genetic inferiority. Anton is constantly praised and encouraged by his parents whereas Vincent is ignored, pitied and kept at home.
When Vincent saves his perfect younger brother from drowning in the midst of a race, he realizes that strength doesn’t always come from the body. This fills him with hope and purpose and he decides that he will achieve what he wants by strength of spirit and not gene. He realises that there is no gene for human spirit.
He leaves home and gets a job as a janitor according to his genetic category in Gattaca. In due course of time he comes across a so-called DNA broker who sells false identities to the genetically inferior. This person sets Vincent up in a partnership with Jerome (Jude Law), who was a superior genetic specimen but had been paralyzed in an accident and is now willing to sell his prime genetic material for cash.Jerome teaches everything about himself in order for him to take his identity.
Vincent has to fool the society that identifies a person and fate with a drop of blood , a flake of skin or a speck of saliva. Vincent does not want anything to stop him. He alters his myopic eyes, enhances his height with painful and torturous surgeries.
He has to be prepared for a world of constant I.D. testing -- he keeps pouches of Jerome’s urine for sudden urine tests, sachets of Jerome’s blood glued to his fingertips for daily blood tests and he has to sprinkle Jerome’s skin and hair samples everywhere he goes to keep up the deception.
Quickly rising through the ranks of the Gattaca Corporation, Vincent AKA Jerome is eventually chosen as one of a select group who will explore the outer boundaries of the solar system. He also falls in love with with Irene (Uma Thurman) who has a minor heart defect. She believes Vincent to be the superior specimen he impersonates and loves him for it.
A week before the scheduled mission the director of the space agency is murdered and everyone in the space program is a suspect. Suddenly, the workplace is swarming with police and the search investigation reveals the presence of an In-Valid’s eyelash near the murder scene.
Vincent is drawn into the murder investigation as an innocent. He has a lot to hide and everything to lose. Now begins the cat and mouse game and Vincent must use everything he has got in him to keep the law at bay, the truth of his identity under wraps and his dreams within reach.

The story is pretty interesting but somewhat farfetched when it comes to an invalid eluding all the tight security tests in the Gattaca corporation. Its full of suspense and its entertaining. You will want to know what happens in the end to Vincent.
