An "Industry Synergized" Joke !

Pre Script - Please be noted, this is a review of Gems B School Banglore but not Hyderabad. The real campus is situated in Banglore only. Rest are all franchisees.

Industry Synergized MBA. That’s the USP with which Great Eastern Management School aka GEMS, head quartered in Vasanth Nagar, Banglore canvases its students. What it means is - "YOU’LL GET A FULL TIME JOB alongside your REGULAR MBA."

Its common to package MBA’s with internships and industry orientation programms but full time Job? Well, it seems as if GEMS have usurped the "Maars Mangalyaan of management institutions!" Is it so? Well, not really. This space orbitor is still floating around on low fuel.

Jokes apart, as Banglorians might be aware of already, GEMS is a management institution owned in part by the Mysore Maharaja clans.

The main campus is situated in Vasanth Nagar Bangalore as there is atleast one franchise organization spread across all parts of the country.

The Hyderabad branch constitutes only one of them. The franchisees are owned by different entreprenuers and managed by people appointed by the respective franchise. Gems Banglore doesn’t have complete authority in the administration part of the franchisees but the curriculum and modus operandi are all one and the same.

No matter where you join, you’ll all be assembled in the main campus in the final year for the job orientation prpgram. If you join the main campus in itself straightawau, you can avail the Job+ Full Time MBA course from the first year onwards itself.

Franchisees, most of them, begin their program with regular schedule(meaning w/o job) like in all other MBA institutes. And after that comes the Gems Banglore sessions.

The placement cell will lead the students to Tier I, Tier II and Tier III companies, depending on their skill set. The placement cell won’t help you much in hunting out a job in the garden city. What they do is, they upload your resume in the popular job portals in the net( monster, naukri) and back up the process with an odd phone call here and there. Campus interviews are there but no matter how you get into the interviews, whether or not you get the job depends on your skill set.

This program is known as the industry synergized program. Its a synergy of both the academics and the corporates. Since MNC’s in Banglore have Sat/Sun off, Gems have been able to package their product accordingly.

If you don’t know the nuances of the course and curriculum, you will be disguised into joining this one heck of a program.

People, most of them, gets tricked into joining this course out of their post-MBA anxities and fears.

If you seek a quotation, their sales team will scare you to bits - "If you study a distance or regular program are you sure you’ll get a job after you finish your course? This is where we come into play. We give the job right away, so you don’t have to worry. And our placement will ensure job. And our highly skilled tutors will ensure that you pass out.!"

Eh heck! Like giving a life jacket before even getting into the boat! As in, by knowing its a boat with holes, that’ll slowly but surely sink into the ocean:-P

Forget the straining task of doing a job and course simultaneously but the problem with Gems is that they don’t have a good placement team.

They certainly have a couple of highly professional tutors but since the classes are conducted in one big concert hall sitting around 100-125 students, most of your queries go unanswered. And most of the conversations go one sided.

Forget about Job. Any Tom, Dick and Harry could get that. What we need is good quality education that concentrates on soft skills development.

You may get a job. You may get certified MBA. But will you be able to convert that experience into the corporates with ease?

I certainly doubt that. I luckily got bailed out by my Trichur franchise, who split with the main campus in between the course.

Which is a long story BTW. Will take another mouthpad to get the job done. Bye for now. Be warned.
