The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

It was an unfortunate experience with Lufthansa Airlines that made me search for a website like mouthshut. The interaction with their(Lufthansa’s) customer relation office was even more traumatic. It was such a relief to write down my grief and share it with numerous MS members. Believe me, I felt on top of the world after writing my first review at Mouthshut. Later, I became addicted to this website and have been hooked up ever since.

It’s been more than 2 months now and I feel I owe a review to the website itself.

The Good .

There are many consumers around this world who have been peeved by various products and services available in the market. Companies that promises a lot but fail to even deliver a part of it escape the attention of billions. At the Mouthshut.com, the person who suffers gets to share his/her opinion with thousands of MS members(their family, friends, colleagues and relatives indirectly) and brings about the consumer awareness which is so much required in today’s world. Mouthshut.com is an attempt to raise the consumer awareness. We also get to know and appreciate the pleasant experiences of consumers.

Apart from becoming market savvy, we also get the opportunity to express ourselves, to improve our writing skills and make friends online. In fact, we are creating a revolution. A friend of mine in Singapore asked me about which mobile to purchase - he was keen on buying an Ericsson T-39(guess his plight if he had done that). Check out Mouthshut.com - WOW! What a smart answer! I feel proud when my friend comes back to me saying’Hey! I saw your review on Panasonic mobile. Why didn’t you simply tell me about Panasonic’. Of course, I was giving him more choice by suggesting the reference to mouthshut. Mouthshut also gives me recognition.

It’s the combination of the above two facts that makes Mouthshut.com - the website to be associated with . You do community work as well as gain personally.

Kudos to the CEO, Faisal, who amazingly, replied to my email within no time. I must mention one incident on Mouthshut.com which impressed me a lot. I had referred Mouthshut to one of my friend. He ignorantly stored the email-id of mouthshut(through which he had received the referral mail) thinking it to be another of my numerous email-ids. He had sent a mail to that mouthshut email-id and I wouldn’t have received it at all but the Mouthshut team took the trouble to forward it to my actual email-id. Thanks for reaching that extra mile.

The Bad . & The Ugly

OK guys! I don’t exactly mean ugly(basically bad:-) but then it is the worst part on the Mouthshut - the members’ difference in rating philosophies. Some rate a product, some rate a review, some rate on the compromise of the product and the review, some rate based on the length, some rate blindly following the mass, some rate in reciprocation of the ratings they have received from the others, some rate based on the sex and beauty of the reviewer( I am sure many will agree with me)  and some don’t rate at all. What is the upshot? Very misleading recommendations.

I feel  the rating should be based on the compromise of how well the review is written, the content and its validity and slightly biased by your opinion on the product/service under review. The females who have a beautiful picture to their profile get more attention for obvious reasons(Confession:initially, I was one of them). Short, compact, complete reviews are often misrated. A very long written, well-formated(bold and italics used) are mostly rated as HR either because one guy would have rated it so blindly, not taking the pain to read the whole review and the others would follow him. Compare some of these lengthy ones with the shorter ones in the same category - you will find the shorter ones with more points than the longer ones.

Many MS members build mutual trust between themselves. That’s understandable but what flummoxes me is that some members who have never written a review are trusted by many(our Faisal sahaab for instance). Funny no?

Finally, I would like to know how you rate - based on the product, based on the sex of the reviewer, based on the mutual agreement, based on other members’ rating, based on length . please let me know.

And keep up the good work! Stick to MS!
