Some thoughts

Bengali film industry is one of the oldest film industries in the history of Indian film. During 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s it was one of the best in the country. Satyajit Roy won Oscar for a Bengali movie. But now a day it is not showing the best results though there are various talented directors and actor, actresses. Most of the films are even not watch able by the general people with their families.

Every year Rituparno Ghosh, Budhdhadeb Dasgupta, Aparna Sen, Mrinal Sen are getting prizes from the national film academy but ultimately their films are not for those aam admis. Some exceptions like Chokher Bali occurs but they are not working to make the market strong for main stream commercial Bengali movies. Third graded films are made and no Kolkata based halls are ready to take those garbage type movies. The market is really going down for Bengali movies.

Movies with some thoughts like Sunya E Bukeor Hathat Nirar Janya are also not up to their mark.

Sandip Roy**, son of Satyajit Roy has got some success with Bombaier bombete but he failed with Nisijapon.

Most of the renowned Bengali directors are now making movies to win the national awards, these art film type movies are naturally not being taken by the common audience.

The directors like Haralal Chakrabarti, Swapan Saha, Anjan Chowdhury, Anup Sengupta are just taking the plot of any Tamil or Hindi films mixing them up and makes a hit Bengali films which are popular among villages. But this formula is taking the film industry downwards.

The Bengali film industry is fully dependent on Prasenjit, Jeet and Mithun. Just imagine Mithun is still hero in these Bengali films! Isnt it ridiculous Jeet is not even a Bengali but doing something in the industry, his Sathi  is one of the huge hit in Bengali industry in the recent years. Veteran actor Ranjit Mallick is a popular name; he has the power to take a movie in his own charisma but how long

Bengales are still nostalgic with Uttam Kumar and Soumitra era  the golden era of Bengali film just because there is no substitution in the empty field. No such actors who are able to fill their empty place.

Many people says that Bengali film industry has problem in infrastructure, but now a days many shooting of Tollywood is occurring in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad but those movies are also below the standard level.

In the last few years the movies like Patalghar (The underground chamber), Abar Asbo Phire Bombayer Bombete, Chokher Bali are little relief for educated film lovers.

Big budget films are not rare in Bengal- Bandhan, Abar Asbo Phire. But still there is no success story.

And last but not the least the main problem on this main stream commercial Bengali films are music. In the golden era every film was a big hit with its sweet songs. But now a days the weak lyrics and weak music(most of the music is taken from Bollywood and Tamil songs) are just worthless. Third graded musicians and singers are making hell in Bengali films.

All over I think the directors should seriously think about main stream commercial Bengali movies, they have to come to make commercial Bengali movies. Not just to attend some film festivals in foreign countries.
