September 11, 2001, will for ever be remembered as a day of terror ! This day, suicidal terrorists turned four commercial airliners into passenger - laden missiles, unleashing the deadliest unforeseen attack against the United States.
This unprecedented strike was bold and meticulously planned.The culprits have not been known as yet. A grim President George W.Bush , in a televised address from the oval Office said, ’’ Thousands of lives were suddenly ended.’’ A terrible tragedy, which has turned the financial centre of U.S. in shambles and it’s military nerve centre in flames along with thousands of people who lost their lives. The horrified citizens of U.S. are wondering what more devastation might rain down on them from the skies!
Some 50, 000 people worked in the World Trade Centre. So far, the death toll is believed to be 10 to 20 thousand. In addition, it is feared that 300 firefighters who first reached the scene had died in rescue efforts at the trade centre. Dozens of police officers are also missing.
Thousands were injured in New York alone, when the twin towers of the World Trade Centre exploded. New York skylines are still dominated by smoke.
Canada’s major television networks cleared their program schedules yesterday to give the terrorist coverage. Actually, there is no one in this country that doesn’t potentially have friends or colleagues who are involved in the story. After all, America is our neighbour and not a far - off spot on the globe!
Many flights have been diverted to Canada after yesterday’s attacks. About 200 planes. Canadian authorities cancelled all out - bound flights yesterday, to make space for U.S planes and passengers. There are no flights today. Passengers are stranded as tourists . Canada has tightened the security as you can imagine.
Canada has promised to offer military assistance to U.S. against terrorism. People are donating blood for the victims here. Actually, this attack is not on Pentagon! It is an attack on humanity. This terrific act should be condemned.
What’s going to be next? People are afraid. Nobody knows what’s going to take place on this planet ! It seems there is a lot of pressure in the White House, as to what has to be done. President Bush is confident that they are going to do thorough investigation and the culprits will be punished.
At this point, if we can do something, it is to pray for the families of victims . Only God can see them get through their grief .Let us all join together, whereever we are and offer a silent prayer to God.Let us not witness any more tragedy of this kind in future.Let us all live in PEACE !
