Wise Parenting

Here is me with a review on Wise Parenting. This is my little effort to help those mothers who are working and finding difficulty in handling their little tods due to lack of time. This review of mine might help them in handling their Little Ones with Great Love & Care despite of  being away from them for 8 to 10 hours a day. **HAPPY PARENTING.

To most parents, parenting is akin to ‘providing their children with the best infrastructure to make life comfortable and easy to live’. That is simply not enough in today’s world. I believe parenting is all about empowering your child with complete emotional comfort. If you are able to achieve this, you will realize that your child has grown up to become an emotionally secure, confident person who can talk to you on just about any thing, even his innermost thoughts. With families getting increasingly nuclearized, children often do not enjoy the company of an extended family on a daily basis. Perhaps, all the more reason to ensure that the parent-child channels of communication always remain open so that children do not turn to external people for advice or indulge in activities that minimize interactions.

For every parent out there, who has to juggle with a busy professional life and increasingly demanding children on the home front, it is easier said than done. Sometimes working mothers find theirselves guilty of not being able to spend hours  bonding with their child. It is never about quantity though, but quality.

Even if we spend only half an hour a day, we should try to make most of it with our children. What we don’t realize, is that even such short focused time might help to keep growing behavioural disorders in children, owing to lack of attention, at bay.

My observation on Working Mothers taught me a few tips that make raising children a joy. Just as it ought to be. None of these tips are rocket science, but are small innovations that help. When faced with tiny tots armed with Cartoon Network knowledge and empowered with pesterpower, these tricks work.

MEALTIME MAGIC

Most children are fussy eaters. Meal- times are usually torturous for parents and children alike. Here are few tips for transforming it into a fun and enjoyable time for your child.

Race with a child while eating

Eat your food with a happy and animated face; appreciate the food as much as possible.

Innovate: cut a chapatti in a shape of an apple, draw a smiley on the plate with sauce or just give colourful spoons and forks.

More often than not, such innovations excite children. If you add a few jokes or a small  chatting session, mealtimes will be a best time in the day for both you and your child.

SURPRISE WEEKENDS

An unplanned visit to a picnic spot or a theme park will add that spark to your child’s mundane routine. Wake up early, pack a few snacks and surprise your child.

SUNDAY TV

Spend Sunday afternoons lazing around, watching your child’s favourite movies with him. Make some popcorn, buy some ice cream, cuddle up in a quilt and enjoy together. Trust me; no other earthly pleasure can compete with the delightful giggles of your child. After the movie, discuss the scenes that made you laugh and even cry. This exercise can serve as a platform to get your child to start chatting with you about his feelings.

PLAY PEN

Ask your child, ” what did you do in the school today?” And, most often the answer will be ‘Nothing’. Play a game with him. Here you can pose as the student while the child enacts his teacher and you will get a complete insight into what your little one is doing at school, what are his perceptions of his teacher, what does he feel about studying etc. similarly, you can also find out your own image in your child’s mind by exchanging roles.

FESTIVAL TREATS

Festivals are usually times when the entire family comes together. While you run around the house making preparations, make your child feel useful too. For example, while cooking, assign the task of peeling potatoes to your child. Or then if you want to do some thing fun, chalk out a rangoli and ask him to fill it with Colour. While doing this, you can talk to your child; explain the significance of the festival to you and to your family and why it is celebrated.

ART AND CRAFT

Those who are allowed to practice child art in their formative years have more creativity than those who don’t. This is because child art is all about free expression. Give your child a few bottles of tempera colours and allow him to paint the bathroom walls. Appreciate his work of art and discuss what more can be done to make it look neat or colourful.

SWEET DREAMS

Ten minutes before your child goes to sleep are very important. Use this time to read a story book together or simply talking. Ask him one special thing that he remembers about the day also, share your day’s special with him. Not only your child will feel happy to share the highlights of his day, he will feel his importance in your life when you narrate your day to him.

FUN LEARNING

And last but not the least; spend some time playing the interactive games, with your child. Both of you could take turns and compare the numbers of stars/ marks you get. Sometimes, make some deliberate mistakes so that the child enjoys winning. Pretend as if you are learning from him and believe me all children enjoy “Playing Teacher”.

Parenting can be a treasure trove of unexplored excitement. So, head it and make the most of it, starting today.
