Windows Mobile technology is not quite popular among us, but people have started showing their interest in touch phones which are generally based on Windows Mobile.
Microsoft has recently launched the WM 6.1 professional platform and most of the companies are offering upgrade suite on their websites now.
I had been using Nokia series 60(3rd Edition) phones assuming they offer best user interface. But, my perception got completely changed when I tried to find applications for WM technology.
My first reason to switch over to WM was Nokia is unable to provide HTML technology on any of the email client(except "profimail" by Lonely cat games). The emails are already on HTML formats that means you can view the graphic and pictures similar to what they appear when we access our web mails. As they provide Mobile outlook. So, if any one of us has got Ms exchange server email account, you just have to entre the web access url along with username and password. You can also configure your hotmail/MSN/yahoo/gmail accounts free of cost. In my opinion, WM is only technology which offers this feature.
Its also gets you ability to view, edit and compose office documents like word, Excel and outlook emails. This feature is paid in other platform.
After data-mining on internet for software I found that there are almost double amount of applications available then of Blackberry/Nokia/Sony Erricsson. Most of them are freeware. So need not to pay for most of the applications.
I have found few very useful applications for WM, kind of must have applications:
Fring: Its an IM application which gets you access to your gtalk, Msn, Yahoo, Skype, ICQ, Twitter, Aim, Orkut, Wefi, Facebook and Last Fm. Its the best all in one messenger I have ever seen. You can also make internet calls from this.
Google Maps: If you have built in GPS senser, go for Google Map. Its the best freeware in terms of navigation.
Opera: I found Opera a best Web browser even far better then pocket internet explorer. Pocket IE doesnt offer tabbed browsing, but opera does and heavier sites appears faster then Pocket IE.
Clear Temp: Its an application to clear your cookies, browsing history, Temporary files, dead links etc. Its must have application and has to be used once a day.
Core pocket media player: Its plays DIVX, avi, ogg formats. a TCPIP plugin lets you play most of the files.
IContact: To have a feel of Iphone, its best contact brwosing application which doesnt requires stylus.
IDialler: Its again a replica of Iphone dial pad, never gives problem and better then built-in dialler.
Pocket Rar: An official version of the RAR archive manager that you can use on your mobile device. An alternate for Zip manager.
Pocket Music: It is best Music software, Better then GS player and Windows Media player, It Boosts the sound and song quality dramatically increases.
Tman: Its the best task manager I have used. Its simple, small and necessary to close applications like Pocket IE(which doesnt gets closed, just gets minimized)
Touch Keyboard 1.0: Its stylus free, finger friendly keyboard. There is a XT9 dictionary and available in many languages.
Yahoo Go: its an application made by yahoo for WM. Gets you features like Flicker, yahoomails, Business sensex and Maps.
Wefi: WeFi is software loaded onto your mobile device which enhances your existing WiFi management software with a more powerful connection tool. The WeFi software automatically detects and qualifies all WiFi access points within range and connects you to the spot with the best Internet connection.
Most of these applications can be found on Google by typin "Windows Mobile Freeware".
Good Luck
Cheers!
