I would like give some tips about CNG kits from my experience with CNG vehicle for past 4 years.
So installed aftermarket kit from local CNG kit dealer.The kit I installed was from Lovato which is well known CNG kit brand.
CNG is a green and clean source of energy, increases your mileage and saves you from huge fuel bills.CNG prices are lower than other fuel prices because it is available abundantly in the petroleum industry.
But before installing CNG kit you need to know about CNG effects, pros, and cons.
Pros of CNG kit installation:
Increased mileage, hence more saving on fuel.
less carbon released into the atmosphere.
Cons of CNG kit installation:
drop in performance of the vehicle.
CNG decreases engine life.
Tank adds weight to the vehicle and eats up on boot space.
suspension need to be retuned to carry the weight of CNG tank.
CNG pumps are not widely available yet.
The range is limited to Tank size.
Effects of CNG kit on vehicle and engine:
As we all know CNG increases the fuel economy of the vehicle.But there are more effects on the engine if you get aftermarket kit fitted.There are 2 types of CNG kit available in market-
1.Conventional kit
2.sequential kit
Conventional kit is mostly used in old cars which have a small capacity engine.in this type of kit, we need to switch manually between CNG and petrol.this type of kit generates less power compared to a sequential kit.conventional kit are 10-15K cheaper than the sequential kit.
Sequential kits are used widely in higher capacity engine vehicles and company fitted kits are all sequential kits.In sequential kit petrol and CNG are supplied in right quantity to an engine to develop right amount of power required.Sequential kits are expensive than a conventional kit.It costs around 45-50k.
CNG kits overall cause damage to the engine life, spark coils get damaged most of the time in CNG vehicles.It’s hard to take car uphill with CNG turned on.engine is working on full load as less power is generated by combustion of CNG.
My advice to all will be going for a sequential kit, It is the best CNG option available without any loss of performance and engine being safer than conventional kit installation.
