Well this review is all about, how to keep your computer UP and RUNNING all the time without any common problems with Operating System or Computer Hardware. So lets begin with Operating System level.
-Do’s-
# Always have a START UP DISK** next to your computer.
# Always have Emergency Repair Disk** if its Windows 2000.
# If you have a CDRW Drive make back ups and store in CD ROM
# Use Disk Defragment** once in 75-90 Days.
# Use Disk Clean Up Once in 60 days.
# Have authenticated username and password to enter system.
# If possible enable BIOS password.
# Have the Latest Version of Mcafee or Norton anti-virus.
# Keep a track of all Downloaded Softwares.
# Keep updating the windows from Microsoft website.
# Keep a track of check points in{system restore}.
# Always delete the cookies for fast internet browsing.
# Have the latest Web Browser installed.
# Incase of a Branded computer, have the TECH SUPPORT NUMBER
# Branded Computer- Upgrade the warranty!
# Upgrade the softwares installed.
# Always have the UPS** support for the computer
-DONT’S-
# Never Ever try to manipulate Registry of windows without proper knowledge.
# Never Switch off computer directly(USE SHUT DOWN)
# Beware of KLEZ, BONZI, and other Internet Virus.
# Do not Over load the C:\ in your computer.
# Dont run multiple application at a time.(this freezes OS)
# Dont download unnecessary softwares.
# Never try To delete system files.(Ex: config.SYS)
# Dont change BIOS setting if you are not sure. what it is.
# Dont Unplug or Plug any device when computer is running.
# If the system runs Scan disk, Do not cancel that.
# Avoid Computer Restart(pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del repeatedly)
# Do not ignore any message or Error Windows if pops up.
# Dont try to troubleshoot without SYSTEM MANUAL IN HAND.
START UP DISK**- This is a Floppy disk thru which u can boot the computer to DOS MODE and view the data or back up the data. This Disk can be created in windows98 or windows ME thru Control Panel>Add Remove Program>startup Disk and then click on create disk with a blank Floppy inside the floppy drive.
Emergency Repair Disk**- This is a great tool in windows 2000 . all you need to do is click on start>program>accessories>system tools>Back Up once u click this you have an option for Create Emergency Repair Disk. Disk Defragment**- This tool is in start>programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Defragment. This has a Good GUI which lets you know about the tool in detail.
UPS**- UnInterrupted Power Supply. which means this is a must for INDIANS as indian computers suffer from State Power Supply Department very often. Use this Device only for closing all programs and saving the files and a safe shut down.
